Windows 7

I am wondering if anyone here has seen Windows 7 and if it really is better than Vista. I am thinking of upgrading to 7, I downgraded back to XP after I tried Vista for a week.
I have read numerous blog posts and "professional" reviews and everyone seems to agree that Windows 7 is better than Vista, but is it worth it? I appreciate any input anyone can give.

Saying Windows 7 is better then vista isn't saying much. Vista is that bad.

Windows 7 > Vista. I started using 7 during the beta testing phase. I like it and will be using it when it comes out on Thursday (actually I have an officially licensed copy I got for free from Microsoft

I really have no idea. I really try hard to avoid using Vista since it is just that glitchy. I have already had to redo my vista machine three times in a year and a half. I do plan on upgrading it to Windows 7. I am just going to wait a few weeks until they come out with the first batch of updates to fix any of the early bugs.
I actually owe Vista a huge thank you. It is what turned me into a huge mac fan. I actually am running Snow Leopard on my MacBook and have no issues with it. If Windows 7 is even half as good as Snow Leopard, then I think it will be a big home run for Microsoft.

Windows > Vista, always. Vista scares me.

Hmmm, I am still on the fence about it. I have the opportunity to purchase it at the $30 student price, but I don't really want to do the whole upgrade thing if it isn't as good as XP.

Personally, like Len90, I'm going to wait until they get some of early bugs out of the way first. May be more like few months than a few weeks, but I can wait.

The bugs are gone. Windows 7 is basically Vista Service pack 2 with smoother function. Plus the beta was out for almost a year and the beta is 95% of the same as the RTM. It is pretty solid, but if you want to wait that is up to you.

I recently bought a new computer that has Vista on it (didn't feel like paying to "upgrade" to XP). Did the MS updates and I assume it now has SP2 on it (I'll check tonight at home). You say 7 is basically the same but with "smoother function". In your opinion, since I've gone this far (Vista), would doling out the $ for 7 worth it for me?

You should look into how long ago you purchased it. You might be entitled to a free upgrade to Windows 7. I would contact customer support for whoever made your machine. If you are entitled to the free upgrade, all you would have to pay for is the shipping and handling. Again, this all depends on how recently you purchased it.

I'll check it out. Thanks Len.
EDIT:
You were right Len.
"...purchase a Dell system between June 26, 2009 and December 31, 2009..."
Free Upgrade.
Thanks again.

Glad I was able to help.
So Windows 7 finally came out today and I made sure to make my way over to Best Buy to play around with the OS. My first impression of it was Vista on steroids that made it resemble a Mac OS more closely. I don't think it will be as popular and well received as XP, but it will be better than Vista. After all, the only possible thing worse than Vista would be Windows ME.

I think I will be holding off on my upgrade for a while. I have heard driver issues when upgrading older systems and I still can't justify spending $130 just to have the latest OS. At least the Snow Leopard upgrade was at most $30.

Len, you are a student, you can get Windows 7 for $30 from the microsoft website. All you need to do is enter your school email address and they send you a link to the order page.

Len, you're so lucky sometimes being a student! It's $130 for me - if I decide to do it, when I decide to do it...

Is anyone having this problem?

After reading this it sounds a very scary. I love the comments after the article. It leaves the open question of how many Microsoft plants are out there? Like I said earlier, I wait a couple of years to see how Windows 7 is working out. Don't believe the hype, be careful with any new OS.
