RIP Walter Kronkite

Post by Dr. Ravenscroft » Jul Fri 17, 2009 7:51 pm

The voice of the 20th Century Walter Kronkite passed away today at the wonderful age of 92. It is sad that he didn't make it to the anniversary of the moon landing, wish he could have made it to see the anniversary. Kronkite was a master of the news and his voice was one of the most recognizable, he will truly be missed.

He was a giant among newsmen; as splintered and politicized as the media has become, I don't see how a present-day news anchor could ever become as widely respected and trusted as he was.

I completely associated him with Spaceship Earth; that's all I knew him from!

Same here, casrin. I don't watch the news very much so that's how I remember him.

It's very sad, and I too wish that he could have held out for the anniversary of the moon landing. :( But at the same, I am glad because I know he was quite ill. At least he is no longer suffering.

I also only associated him with Spaceship Earth. He was my favorite narrator.

He was the man America trusted! Because of him "We were there". He was there for the biggest stories of my life and my age. I know there are quite a few of us that remember Mr Cronkite as the voice of our evening meal and the one that told us about what was happening in the world. Even as a child I remember him from Sat. morning and the "You were there" program that taught us about history. He will be missed!

I also only rememeber him from Spaceship Earth, but I do know he was a well respected reporter. To live to 92 is a much longer life than anyon can ever imagine. I feel like requesting his Spaceship Narration right now.
I know this is probably your first flight...and it's mine too...ha, ha

I guess maybe America's two Uncle Walts may be together somewhere now.
