Swine Flu

I haven't heard everything on it but I know that it's been hitting the US and other countries. I'm already hearing that people in the San Diego area have been hit and it's freaking me out. I'm in the SoCal area so it's only a matter of time before it comes here.
Has anyone been keeping tabs on it? Know anyone that has been hit by it? Any reports around your area about it? I hope you all keep safe!

The US currently has 40 cases---it doubled from this morning with cases confirmed in New York City. Apparently it's spread over the US in about 5 or 6 states.
Wow!

I was talking to my mom (near Toronto) earlier and she said there were a few confirmed cases in Ontario, all in students who'd been a spring break in Mexico. All have 'mild flu symptoms' and are otherwise okay, apparently. I haven't really heard anything about it here (in Atlant'er).
I think the media hype's getting a little out of control, personally. Though having been in Toronto through the whole SARS thing has me jaded to media coverage of 'outbreaks'.
Anyway.. stay healthy, everyone. And remember anti-
bacterial hand sanitizers aren't designed to kill
viruses. Wash your hands!

It's definitely a lot of media hype. They don't know why the swine flu is so bad in Mexico because usually the death rate is 1-4% of those infected and it's basically the same as the regular flu. Here's a good article about it:

The government is just trying to scare us into submission. I mean, this is the same government that decided to fly low over New York City in Air Force One today.

Michael Crichton wrote a book about this called "State of Fear". lol

Stay safe everyone, I do think the media is guilty of creating alot of hype though. But, this is definately scary stuff. I don't know of anyone is this area that has it but on the news (again the media) they were saying that Chicago will be hit soon b/c it's a transportaion hub ie. O'Hare. We live right near Chicago. I work with the public too, I just plan to wash my hands like crazy!!!

Unfortunately anytype of "superflu" will hit us when we aren't prepared. And hey comparisons to The Stand can begin.

A big media hype on this. Pretty much nothing you can do if you get sick other than get others sick. There are really no treatments, and if you go to the doctor or hospital, you are just exposing others to the disease. I know there are now potentially 5 cases in NJ, but not confirmed yet. My college sent out an email tonight warning the student body of the disease and that an emergency plan is ready to go.
Annafab, that airplane thing is one of the most poorly thought and executed planned events. I don't know why the government would want to shoot pictures of a plane that is dubbed "Air Force One" when the president is on board over where the twin towers once stood. Not to mention the fear that would be inflicted on people in downtown Manhattan when they see a low flying plane with a fighter trailing it.

No cases in my neck of the woods.
In case you haven't been following it too close, please don't stop eating pork! This flu is spread through humans, not pork, and MN doesn't need this destroying one of our major industries.

Is this thing out of season? I thought flu was in the winter, Jan, Feb.......
Everyone is saying it is mild flu....
Just like normal....wash, wash, wash....... say the alphabet while you wash, they say that is how long it takes to wash properly.
Stay well everyone.....
