Has anybody been hit with the April fools virus? My computer is almost on lock down and I haven't seen any sign of it.

Are you talking about conficker? IT and ISP's have been working on getting it patched since January when we all first heard about it. Microsoft has a patch for it if you go to http://www.microsoft.com/protect/comput ... icker.mspx And it will help you figure out if you have it and help you get it off your system. If you can't get to that link and you have difficulties turning you computer off then you probably have it. The worm blocks security sites like Norton, symantec, etc. so if you can't get to them either then you know.

But seriously the news is ULTRA late on this one. They should have been doing stories on this months ago. If you let the people know how to stop it early then you have a better chance of stopping it. They are late and as a result tens of thousands have been infected. They should have told people earlier is all I'm saying.

My computer is fairly safe. I run AVG every night. I also run C cleaner and Super anti spy ware once a week, I update them whenever one is offered. This has kept my computer running clean and as an added benefit my speed is the same as the day I built it. Another piece of soft ware I find is very useful is PC mags PC wizard. It's a piece of free ware that analyzes all the systems of you computer. It looks at bench marks and can show you where you are having a problem.

I have a Mac- what is a virus??

Seriously, I run Vista through boot camp to play a few games and double checked everything last night. I have not used Vista today so I don't know what is going on. If it is infected, at least I don't lose everything.

HAHAHAHA, don't feel too secure. I have seen the Mac virus' and what they can do, it is just as bad as the PC ones. The only reason Macs' haven't been it as hard with the virus' is that their market share is still only 30%. Now when that number gets into the 40-50% range you will see 100 virus' show up overnight on your computer.

No, thankfully I haven't. I recently did a virus scan last night and came up with nothing. I'm going to do a spyware scan in a second to double check. This laptop's gone through enough viruses in its time and I don't want to deal with anymore.

True, but it is also harder to get a virus on a mac due to the writing of the software. The only virus outbreaks I have seen on Mac are due to user stupidity in downloading pirated software. Still, I know nothing is fool proof and it is only a matter of time until a massive virus is written for both PC and mac.

I'd just like to say the worst (actually... only) virus I've ever had on my PC was via a StuffIt file (that'd be the Mac compression utility) I needed for school - not downloaded illegal software or anything 'suspicious', just an exploitable hole in StuffIt. I'm sure it did more damage because my PC virus checkers weren't looking for this alien thing, but all the same... don't feel too secure. ;)

True, there are also viruses that can lay dormant on a Mac and infect any PC on the network you are connected to.

Unfortunately it seems like for some it's a hobby and for others it's just a way for them to be evil.

Nope . . while we spend most of our waking moments listening to SR and chatting with fellow Disneyites (Mousekevites . . . what are we?) there isn't time for much evil.

Maybe we need to convert these hackers over to the Mouse side. may the Mouse be with you. (Okay . . . enough Star Wars refernces!)

Speaking of all this viurs and spyware.....

I run this just about every week, but..... my daughters laptop is still running slow, and I mean slow.... anyone have an idea? We run AVG (free), Adware, and Spybot. My husband found Windows LiveOne Care, at the Microsoft site ran that. Also did defrag, took out programs she didn't run or use, did disk clean up, so, now what? Anything we can do, other than reboot Vista?

Thanks!

I agreee, why bother sending out those nasty virus things? Who invented them? Why take the time, only to say I did that? And then you can't tell because you would get into trouble!

I could send you to a website that where you can get a virus quickly and easily. If you want to have fun that is.

Try C cleaner, it's free ware that cleans all the trash out of your registry. It works really well. I use it and I've used it on a few friends computers. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at the results.
