If anyone has CC giftcards left over from the Holidays or before, you MIGHT want to use them SOON (if you're still able to in your state, that is):

Dang, I wish I had a little disposal income, I really need a new laptop and now would be the time to buy one!!! Office Depot is closing all of it's stores in MA, I don't know about all over the US, but this economy is tanking everyone, really scary!

We were supposed to have a Circuit City built in my city but now I have no idea what will go there when all the stores start closing. I've been a Best Buy shopper for years but now I should see how much the Canon Rebel cameras are going for.

I'm just wondering if they are going to have great deals on some items trying to clear out their inventory?

Now that is irony right there. The only one in Kissimmee just opened about a year ago. OOPS!!

Side note, liquidation sales start tomorrow.

Wow that stinks. I know my local Circuit just closed at the end of December. No more CompUSA, and now no more Circuit City. Very sad to see the state of our economy.

our Comp USA closed down a little over a year ago. but, CompUSA is not totally out of business. They just scaled back drastically. according to their website, they still have 23 stores open in 4 states (plus Puerto Rico). and you can still order from their website and have it shipped to you. ALL Circuit City stores, and website, will close.

There is one that just opened- literally 3-4 years ago, it is brand new.... and now it will get gone.. but that is okay, there is a Best Buy across the street literally and I liked it alot better.

Personally, I never liked CC and there have very little of my money.

CC is a Richmond Virginia based company so I am familiar with them as HQ is only 70 miles away. They closed our store in November and instead of great deals, they moved anything worth buying to other stores before "liquidating". lucky for the rest of you they don't have anywhere to move stuff to so I guess you might get good deals.

Good Luck on finding deals.

Just so you know most pro camera stores have better prices than even the "big box" stores. The camera I have now I got for about $250 less online from B&H Photo, granted I live no more than one days shipping from them but there are stores on the west coast that you can probably find a good price at. But this is a little off topic, I'll talk to you in the chat one day and we can help you out with that.

Back to the topic at hand,

Don't put too much into the liquidation sales. The way that liquidation works is this. The company that is going out of business hires another company, one that deals only with liquidations, and they start looking at all the costs of everything and what the company needs to pay off its dept. Then the second company suggests ways to maximize profits during this time. One way they do it is by raising the price of everything to the list price and THEN taking the percentages off that you see in the adds.

Example:

Samsung - 46" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV Reg. price before liquidation reg price 1,199.99 List Price 1499.99
Price after Liquidation: 1049.99

Basically you only save $150 which works out to be 12.6% instead of price you think you will get, and that is 30% off regular price which would be $839.

So buyer beware, that's all I'm saying. Granted these are cheaper than before but you really need to do your homework on this stuff, don't just walk in the store and say OOH good deal.

To Hijack the thread and talk about cameras, I would REALLY strongly suggest B&H Cameras. They are online and have catalog. I ordered a Canon S5IS Digital Camera. The prices were good, the shipping was fast, and they were very pleasant to work with. And they have a really huge selection of stuff from computers to cameras, printers to podcast stuff and more.
I can't reccommend it enough (and no, I do not work from them, I am just a satisfied customer).

just FYI, we don't "hijack" threads. we just create new ones. but, considering the fact that we already have a thread open on Digital Cameras, a new thread would not be good.

if anyone wishes to continue discussions about cameras, please do so at the link provided. thank you.
