Subsonic Radio

I've been collecting Christmas music since I was about 12 and even have my parents albums. It's taken me years to transfer everything to MP3's and my hard drive. I realized I now have over 8 gig of Christmas music (over 6,000 songs ranging from the 1930's to present).

I was wondering if I'm alone in being a collector of Christmas music? Is there anyone else out there on the boards?

Not really, we just have a few classics that we listen to. Our family's favorite tradition is John Denver and The Muppets. It's corny, but nothing means holiday to me more than that album

HAHAHAHA, I love that one. I am actually sequencing my lights for a couple of those sings this year.

I basically have all TSO (trans-Siberian Orchestra), Boston Pops, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, several Muppets albums too. That is all that I can think of here at work. If I was at home I could see it all.

Sure, after I get all the lights up and all the sequences done...........yeah.........um, I guess I should really finish these sequences, hehehe

I'm still finding more to download but for now......I have about 60+ songs from what I just counted in my Christmas songs folder.

I like to have a variety to listen to. So I just tune into the radio or cable tv for my music. Although I do have several Christmas cd's. For the life of me can't think of which ones. I love the old ones, Nat, Bing...

I don't know what I would do with so much music though. Do you listen to all of them, or do you just pick a few favorites?

I have a few play list I like. Sometimes I'll just que everything up on the computer and let it play for days on end! We don't seem to hear many repeats, although some of the Albums and CD's the music came from have the same songs and same artist. It's amazing that the same song and artist will be on the greatest Christmas songs compilations decade after decade. Some songs have been out there for well over 60 or 70 years!! You also hear a lot of different arrangements for the classic Christmas songs we all know, with this you can tell what decade that version was recorded.

currently I'm up to about 770 individual tracks with a holiday theme, which takes up about 4.2 GB worth of room on my external HD, and can play for a little over 43.5 hours. the collections includes songs from Bing, NKC, TSO, the Muppets, Bob Rivers, and WDW. A total of 33 complete albums, with about 260 separate individual tracks. I even managed to find 1 Album in which christmas songs are played on traditional Chinese instruments (very interesting).

The Chinese music sounds very interesting. I've been getting into some traditional English and Irish Christmas music lately. It's good to see someone else has Bob Rivers! Do you have any Red Peters or Electric Amish Christmas music? Has anybody else noticed how Christmas comedy music has changed over the decades?

no, I don't have Red Peters or Electric Amish. I do have some Three Stooges. I even have the Brady Bunch. I'll have to look into getting some others.

as far as the Chinese ones I havem it's by the 12 Girls Band. There's no singing on the album, it's all instrumental. But they take some more contemporary songs like "Last Christmas" or "All I Want For Christmas (Is You)" and play them on those traditional instruments. sounds kinda weird but it's actially really good. you can find some videos on YouTube of them.

I have about 200 Christmas songs. Mainly Mannheim Steamroller and Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

Yes, I know what you mean, even on Sub, you can tell..... funny, same song, different era... amazing!

I don't know if anyone knows who I'm talking about, but Nox Arcana did a FANTASTIC Christmas album a few years ago called Winter's Knight. It is one of the most beautiful albums I have ever heard. And if you don't know who Nox Arcana is- look them up!!! They are AMAZING!!

I just got the new Kristin Chenoweth Christmas album - A Lovely Way To Spend Christmas. Pretty good. I also ripped some of the songs from the Jeff Dunham's Very Special Christmas Special. some funny stuff there...

so, as of right now, my collection is up to about 830 tracks, equalling about 46 hours and 45 minutes. I get more tracks (just about) everyday. I'm currently looking for that Nox Arcana album as well as a few others
