Does everyone feel the same way? of course not. and to think so would be foolish at best. Personlly, I feel there is too much partisanship to even BEGIN to consider it. If only we weren't so divided on EVERY issue, maybe we could resolve our problems quickly and efficiently.
Amen. Partisan politics is ruining this country.

Well put JS.

As long as there are going to be two people running there is always going to be division, isn't that the nature of competition? And for all of the people that are saying to put aside our differences after the election is over did you in fact do that when your candidate lost in the past and cheer on the winner, I think the past 8 years have proven not with all the bashing.

There are FUNDAMENTAL differences between the parties, and people that side with one will not see the other side. Sure, you probably don't agree with every policy of person you supported, likewise you may agree with some of the oponent's, but the fundamental differences remain. With that we will always have division.

As for the candidates, I chose the one that I felt was better capable of running a country. I side with the fundamental beliefs of defending our country, personal responsibility, and free enterprise which what this country was founded on. I blame the 8 years of the Clinton office for the economy. Clinton pushed the bill that forced Fannie and Freddie Mac to provide sub-prime loans that caused this mess right now. His reason, because they were making too much money?!?!? Great idea, now you put the entire globe at risk. I also did not agree with his move to cut anti-terrorist funding during his 8 years - would 9/11 have been prevented had he not done that? I don't know, but my vote is for not letting it happen again.

I don't know? Lets see, He's a Harvard Grad, and we all know how easy it is to do that. Extremely well spoken, with thoughtful, intelligent, and meticulous answers. After the last eight years I can see how a few of us might not be able to recognize that. He smart enough to surround himself with some of the best minds this country has to offer. Again after the last eight years.

He doesn't just react in a knee jerk fashion to what's going on around him. And a true sign of intelligence, he addresses the problem and not just attack the messenger.

Why don't you give me your thoughts on why you don't think he is very smart.
I am at work and I will try to get this on here without it sounding preachy.

Jacca I never said anything about him not being smart. I was just curious as to why you thought he was the smartest EVER elected, that's all. I will just say that I do believe a lot of people jumped on his band wagon without knowing much about him because they wanted to send a msg to Pres. Bush that we were tired of his administration. Bush didn't make these decisions on his own, he had a whole lot of people, democrats and republicans alike helping him make the mistakes he made during his presidency. Those same deomcrats and republicians sure started finger pointing, denials and ran like the wind in the opposite direction when thing started going south and didn't want to be associated with the President. They had their "careers" to think of.

I think that most of our Presidents have been intellectual individuals, it comes down to the people you surround yourself with (advisors) because this is not a dictatorship, Bush did not single handedly mess up this country, it took a whole lot of people to do that.

I am impressed that you took the time to get to know facts about the new pres. elect and that you were not just jumping on the band wagon. That is why I asked, I never said he wasn't smart. He is very articulate (when reading from material, but not so much in the debates). He is well poised. It's a hard job to walk into and be able to give speeches and reassurances to our country "off the fly" and not have everything scripted. Just not my canidate. McCain was not my choice either, I didn't feel the strength from him. Something about Obama scares me, I can't pin point it or say exactly what it is. I just don't feel safe under him yet. Hopefully that will change.

I did not it seems get as clear a picture as you did while I followed his speaches, etc.. This was the toughest election for me to vote in, and I have been voting since 1976! Yes, I was a Regan supporter and that really irks some of my friends still to this day!

Personally I would like a clean slate and clear out all the politicians in office, reduce the amount of time they can serve, instead of having "career" politicians who are clearly in it solely for themselves and start all over. Is there EVER going to be a politician these days that actually DOES look out for the best interest of the PEOPLE, not the lobbiest, and big business? I highly doubt it.

All we can do is support him and hope that this country and those that live in it turn it around and make it great again. It's not just HIS job to turn this country around, it is all of ours.

Gotta get off my soap box and get to work, before my boss makes me join the ranks of the unemployed for being on here :D
Great thoughts shared in this post everyone!

Wow! I am very impressed with your writing and thought process. I may not agree with you, but I can understand why you feel the way you do. In a country such as ours, it's sometimes like people just take political sides as if at a football game. It's feels good to know there are people out there (read all the post on this tread) who actually research the issues before making a decision.
I may not agree with everything said here, but I do understand we look at the world from where we stand. Remember; it's a scientific and mathematical fact that no two objects can occupy the same space at the same time. Hence we all have a different point of view. It's nice to be able to have an intelligent debate. I know in other quarters this would have become a mindless shouting match.

PS We're about the same age. I've been voting since 1978.

Comrads! All is well in our socialist/communist country! AmeriKa will be a great nation! I have told my beautiful comrad children that this will be the last time in a long time to visit a Disney park because according to the Messiah I am now rich and it is my duty as a Comrad AmeriKan and it is patriotic to pay more in taxes. Let's see my spending habits are now non-existent. We have stopped going out to eat, our trip that was paid in advance to WDW we are not going to spend much at the park and etc. my taxes are going up from 35% to 55%, well his plan of bubble economics are not going to work. I will be laying off employees. So, all I can say is "It's not my fault, I voted for Mcain"
Trying is an excuse to fail! Just go and do it!

What is this idea that the President can change taxes or do anything at all to fix or break the economy? True, the President commands the military, so he can unilaterally start a war if he wants. But barring another 9/11-like event that makes it seem un-American to disagree with the President on anything, any of his plans are going to have to pass Congress. And even though the Democrats control Congress, it doesn't mean they'll go along with the President on everything. After all, a Republican congress refused to pass Bush's Social Security plan in 2005. And a Democratic Congress killed the Clinton health plan in '93.

Also, the President has absolutely no control over the economy. Roosevelt didn't get America out of the Great Depression. World War II did that. So you could really thank Emperor Hirohito for signing off on the bombing of Pearl Harbor before you could thank Roosevelt. And the Clinton Administration had nothing to do with the Internet boom of the mid-to-late 90s, even if Al Gore did invent the Internet. For some reason the President, whoever he may be, always gets the credit for an economic boom and the blame for a recession or a depression, when the facts show that he usually has little to do with it.

Twenty years from now, when all this is behind us, we'll probably see that the economy would have done whatever it was going to do, regardless of whether Americans had elected Hopey McChange or Grumpy McWarHero and Vice President Flash Card. :)

Sour grapes!! I'm just hoping you move. I hear Alaska would be a great place for you! I mean after your president "W" ran the train off the tracks and you got to get away with all the greed you handle. Well maybe you'll try another country. From the over whelming majority that voted for president Obama, good riddance!! :D
