Ok, so is anyone here experiencing any gas shortages where they live? I went to the one gas station I know of here in Atlanta (well, the suburbs of Atlanta) that has gas at 12:30 AM and still had to wait in a line to get gas (AND pay $4.39/gallon!!). People were cussing at each other and filling up gas cans like they were preparing for the Apocolypse or something. This is rediculous because I hear that this is something that is only happening in a couple of cities in the Southeast. I can't seem to find much information online about this problem though. Is anyone else dealing with this?!

I am! But I'm also in Atlanta so that's not much help. Most of the stations around here have been out all week. The station down the street from me had a shipment of regular grade in on Monday and was -packed- all day long. They've been closed again since then. So far, we've had decent luck actually finding stations that had some, though, but we've had to look around for it.

I've heard it's almost exclusively a problem in Atlanta. No water, no gas. I think we just have problems with liquids here (except Coca-Cola, which we'll never run out of...).

haven't had any problems here in B-Lo, NY. in fact, gas is pretty much the cheapest it's been in a long time - about $3.79/gallon I believe

Seems kinda wierd, could any of this have to do with the Tropical Storm out there? is it supposed to hit Georgia?? That sounds just like the prep phase down here in Florida.

No, no tropical storms supposed to hit I don't think. I've been doing some research trying to figure out why we're having problems and I think it has to do with the gas that we get from the Gulf - those stations were shut down for awhile while Gustav and Ike came through. They're back up and running, but I don't think they're running at full capacity right now. I've also heard that the gas we get have a lot of regulations on it's content because of the smog here in Atlanta. The other big problem is panic buying (which I am a little guilty of... ).

I guess it's good that it's only Atlanta, so I don't have to worry about gas when we drive down to Disney in a couple of months (but I hope this problem will be resolved by then anyway)!

I haven't experienced it here in Southern California though gas, for right now, is under four dollars. Let's just hope it stays under four for a little longer.

Our gas here in Abq is the cheapest it has been in quite a while - hovering around 3.32!! - blue

We're in N.W. Indiana, right near Chi-town. Our gas is around $3.88 right now. We live near a refinery, but we still get ripped off. My father worked for Amoco for 33 years (now BP) and he said there is no reason for the gas prices, it's gauging the public. I hope this ends soon?! I certainly think twice before I hop in my car to go somewhere.

Yeah, as far as I understand it has to do with the EPA regulations we have (which are being suspended for the moment), damage to a pipeline through Louisiana from Gustav, and the refineries that were closed by Ike. I don't really understand why it's just Atlanta, apart from the EPA part; I assume that must be the difference since they seem to be more stringent here for some reason. Well that and the population + number of cars + aforementioned panic buying.

It's a shame too when you consider gas was the lowest it'd been in months right before Ike. >_<

Well, in NJ we've got gas... (just realized that had a double meaning after typing it). It has reached back to pre-hurricane prices. For some reason we had price gouging before Ike that caused prices to go up about $.30 overnight. I have seen regular for $3.27, but my car needs premium so I am shelling out in the $3.50's.

As for Atlanta, you would think all major cities would have this issue. Look at NYC and California. Very interesting.

Gas actually went down in the past few days here in Ft. Lauderdale. I filled up today for $3.63.

Same here in Gainesville, we are around $3.67 right now, which is the cheapest we have been in about a year (Gainesville and Alachua County traditionally have the most expensive gas in Florida). I would think the gas shortage could be resolved sooner than this, is there any idea as to what is causing it?

its not that bad down here in west palm beach. its gone down alittle. its about $3.50 i think. Some places are a little lower in cents. I havent seen any fights like what was said.

Almost all of the gas stations here in Charlotte, NC have run out of gas. The few that have gas have a very long line of people waiting in their cars. I waited 30 minutes a few days ago. A coworker of mine had to wait 2 hours.

Charlotte gets its gas through a Texas pipeline that was impacted by the hurricane. Eastern North Carolina gets its gas from the port of Wilmington and they are not having any shortages.

No shortage here in Mpls - and prices are at around $3.39/gal. Not too bad considering the turmoil in the markets.
