well decided to check the forums tonight (vs. during work tomorrow) when i hear a knock on my door followed by a frantic ringing of the door bell. seems my house was on fire and i didn't even know. (the neighbors were up watching Letterman and and saw smoke then flames burst. The investigators just left and i'll find out more tomorrow. (i'll even post pics. later.) luckily everyone is safe, and there is no structual damage, no internal damage but the side of my house is now black and missing several boards and all the window are burnt and cracked. whew...what a night. its 1:20 a.m. and i'm finally off to a restless sleep if i can find it.

Whoa! I'm so glad that you're all right! Did you figure out what or how it started or was that why the investigators were there? I hope now you can get some good night's sleep after that scare.

Wow that is scary. Glad to hear that you are ok and it wasn't worse.

What was the cause?

Wow I thought this was going to be a thread about how checking the forums at night makes it easier the next day, then I read the your post croaker. Glad you are OK, and glad your neighbors are night owls too. I hope the cause is something trivial and not something like arson.

They currently are down to two possibilities. Fireworks or Garden Lights. unfortunatley they found evidence of both so we may not know which exactly.

Home sweet home looks good from this angle.

then you get to the side. ugh.

here's the first possibility....that was a garden 24 low voltage garden lamp.

here is the stick...the head of the firework was taken for possible evidence

Kudo's to the Fire Department's 3 min. arrival time and unbelievably no water inside the house...go figure!

The kids took it amazingly well. as did the wife! the dog didn't, when we left the house he ran back and pee'd all over the bedroom, i couldn't believe how much that dog can pee. if we could have gotten him to the fire i'm sure the Fire Department wouldn't have been needed. Of course the real irony is that we sell insurance...so this is the first time i've been my own client for claims.

Thanks! not sure on the fireworks but we had a fire about a month ago in a field about 100 yards away so i'm going to inquire today with them.

Wow, those pictures are a bit scary to look out but still, I am glad you managed to get out all right. The damage doesn't look too bad since the whole entire side isn't charcoal black.

unless the firework pic doesn't show something, it looks like the garden light is the culprit. It's got the most about of burn around it. maybe the firework hit the light, set off a spark, and caused it.

glad everyone is ok.

Thanks for sharing your scary story. I'm glad everyone is o.k. I hope your dog is over the trauma of the experience. Gosh I was thinking about putting some of those garden lights around our house however I may think twice about that idea now. Take care and I hope the repairs go smoothly.
