The Six Flags Electrical Parade

Post by Cheshire Cat » May Mon 26, 2008 3:14 pm

I just got back from a quick trip to Six Flags New England to find out what was new and changed for this season, and found posters of what looked like (at first glance) Elliot from the Main Street Eletrical Parade.

Rather than get a new ride this year (as if they could fit another ride anyway), Six Flags is getting their own nighttime parade (a Six Flag's first?) that looks pretty amazing, and was even created with the help of a Disney imagineer. While the floats look more like neon than lightbulbs, the floats on the posters look like the familiar MSEP floats (IE. Green Dragon, Pirate Ship). I was wondering if any other Six Flags have been getting this parade. I'm actually pretty excited to see it when they eventually start running it. Six Flags even went as far as to have an original musical score composed for it.

Oh yeah, it's actually called "Glow in the Park Parade".
Here's an article I found about it (with the Dragon picture)...
http://www.sixflags.com/newEngland/info ... epark.aspx

edit: looks like this parade is coming from Six Flags Mexico, a little googling found me this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyme9fNE2co and another (very recent) video of Six Flag's Great Adventure: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbfY84Zk4Nw

"Six Flags" would not be the first thing to come to mind after watching the video. It looks at least like soemthing Busch Gardens quality or even basic Disney quality. I guess Six Flags is really starting to try.

That looks pretty interesting. Definitely let us know after you get to see it.

 Grrr, Six Flags. Houston is the 4th largest city in the nation and we don't have an amusement park within 200 miles because Six Flags closed Astroworld.

I'm glad they can have the "Six Flags" of Texas flying all over the country, but not in Houston. Bah.

I didn't realize Elitch was no longer under the Six Flags name. That was a pretty cool park when I visited like 7 years ago.

Surprising that a park degrades after losing the "Six Flags" from its title. Seems to me that it should be the other way around. ;) That's what happened to Fiesta Texas in San Antonio. Six Flags bought it and it became quite nasty very quickly.

Sorry I can't speak for the rest of you, but the two closest to me (Great Adventure and New England) have been getting progressively nicer, cleaner and just better overall within the past 3 or 4 years. I guess they're only focusing on a few of their (few) parks right now. The only thing that's really bothering me is the removal of flat rides. They also got rid of their huge ferris wheel which I liked. They're starting to focus on the park atmosphere and guest flow more I think.

You know, I don't really care. There will never be a 6 Flags by me. For the most part, I can't afford "amusement parks" as part of our vacations. If I'm going to spend the $ on a family vacation, Disney is going to get my money.

Yeah, I don't waste time on amusement parks for vacation, either. It was a bit different when we could buy $50 season passes for Astroworld, which was 15 minutes away.

It looks like six flags is really starting to try and make their reputation a lot better. When I went to Magic Mountain in LA about 5 years ago, the park was trashy, the rides were shut down most of the time, there were hundreds of kids from gangs... the whole nine of a shanty amusement park. When I left, I was under the hope they would close and do some major refurbs. But, I went a little over a year ago and was quite surprised at how much the park had imporved. The walkways were clean and weren't littered with cups and garbage, the rides were operating at full capacity, and they even had opened up a new ride Tatsu. Needless to say, I was pretty impressed. Now they just have to do something about their long ride wait times....

hmm I watched the Great Adventure one. GA is about 40min from me. I will have to take a trip there this summer.

It looks like a standard Six Flags rip off of Disney. I will say that it least it looks better then parades they have had in the past.

Six Flags has been trying to clean up their look and appeal to families. I think they finally realized that going after the teen and 20 somethings market is not successful. They needs to target families that actually spend money in the parks, rather then an age group that just create security headaches.

I hope to go see this this year. I know it won't be as good as disney's old main st. electrical parade, but neither is spectromagic.

I saw the parade in GA this summer, and it was pretty neat but defnitely no Disney parade. Though I do appreciate that Six Flags is willing to change, and I noticed that there wasnt an overabundance of teenagers gangs compared to the last time I went and more families this time.
