Just checked through the thread and didn't see I never responded. I am currently a student at Rutgers University.

Currently I have not declared anything, but I have narrowed it down to Economics or Biology. I am leaning towards the Economics and would probably go into Financial Law. Luckily I am still a freshman so I have some time left to think this out.

Awesome! I was actually one class away from having a minor in Photography. My major was Visual Art.

So is this digital photography or good ole fashioned SLR photography? When I was in school we used SLR cameras, though my main camera now is a Canon S5IS digital.

At the moment, I could go for both. I have a Canon SD1110 and that's been my pride and joy since I got it for an early Christmas present. I really want a Canon Rebel XS since I went to a camera store and the guy said that it was much better than the Rebel XTI. I have yet to see how my photography class is going to go. I start late next month.

If you have a choice, I would do some of both. Unfortunatly, it is much less relevant now to do film photography.

I tell you what, some of the best days of my young life consisted of taking a boom box into the school's darkroom at 11:00 at night and just working till I got too sleepy to do any more... The smell of the chemicals, that awesome feeling when you see a picture literally come to life in front of your eyes in the chemical bath, there is nothing like it.
I got my photography bug from my dad, and I ended up using 2 of his cameras in college. One was a Canon A1 from about the early 80's (which I actually just "borrowed" from him a few months ago and I used it for the first time in over 10 years), and the main one I used was a Canon FtB from the early 1970's (it is older than I am). We still have it, but I think it needs some fixing before we can get it working again.

But, like I said, if you want to take less classes in things that are more relevant, then of course go for the digital photography.
My Canon S5IS is not a digital SLR- it does not have interchangeable lenses, but it one step down from one. It has pretty much all the features of an dSLR except for the lenses and the RAW format. The reason I got it was because it has a movie feature. I enjoy having the opportunity to shoot a short little movie if I want to. dSLRs can't do that.

Shoot. Sorry, I rambled on. Get me started on photography, and I can talk forever. :)

Photography has always been a hobby of mine. We have a Canon 30D, and it is amazing. However, my only downfall with a digital SLR is that it is just too bulky to take around the parks in WDW.

That could be a good idea for a minor for me! Thanks!

I'm a full time attorney (which I guess sounds silly because what attorney isn't full time?) Well me I hope! I want to work part time after the Heffalump get's here. I'm just hoping I can save up enough and pay down enough debt to do it.

A few pages back someone said they were going to law school to make the big bucks. Don't be fooled. Get an MBA instead. Fewer years equals fewer loans and the pay is better. Plus no billable hours. (Can you tell I hate my job?) Trust me, if you surveyed the graduating class of any lawschool that wasn't in the top ten you would find that 90 percent don't want to be lawyers but feel they have no choice due to the crippling debt. Top ten kids are hardcore gunners who will likely get a starting salary of at least 100 grand so avoid surveying the top ten. Oh and that 100 grand isn't really 100 grand. It's more like 50 when you consider that those at the top firms work an average of 80 hours a week. (seriously hate my job - darn my mortgage payment's worth of student loan debt - you really don't want to know the total)

Hmm, if you can find a lawyer that doesn't have to bill time or deal with clients I think the answer would be yes. But then I'm not sure if they would be doing any lawyering. Maybe judges? Seriously, it's not a happy profession and it doesn't help that the rest of the world hates us. I usually don't tell people what I do for a living unless it's in this kind of "hey what does everyone do?" forum thread. If you think I exagerate, there was this horrible made for TV movie about the sun going supernova. The scientist was being shown around the underground refuge the government had built to preserve the human race. "We have facilities for scientists, doctors, politicians, teachers... everyone! Well not lawyers."

Aaaaand that about sums it up.

But the grass is always greener right? I'm not sure if anyone really likes what they do for a living.

I'm a tech (read wire monkey) and I love what I do. I get to play with high tech stuff and make it work. It's a lot of fun, I may come home dirty at the end of the day and sometimes am gone for weeks on end, but I truly enjoy what I do. All I needed was a two year degree. One thing I find cool is I have a few close friends that are either lawyers or doctors (we met years ago at my boys school) and they call me for help with their high tech stuff. You'd be amazed how a surgeon has trouble with a computer, it's funny. My buddy Gary (Neonatal surgeon) was watching me work on his computer and told me if it bled he could fix it.
