Someone had recommended to my mother (nancynohorse) that she contact the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan because the organization grants wishes to seriously ill children. She did, and Erik's wish had been to "meet Mickey Mouse." In January 1987, Make-A-Wish flew our entirely family to Orlando FL for a week where we met Mickey, went to the Disney parks, Sea World and a few other attractions. It was an absolutely magical week and one that we credit in prolonging Erik's life.
Mum and I still support Make-A-Wish through their fundraising activities. This Saturday, we're taking place in the "Walk for Wishes" at the Detroit Zoo, raising money for future wishes to be granted for other ill children. Turns out that Make-A-Wish allows only pledges and donations online for each walker (my registration was confirmed today, so I just found out!). I know that we're all strapped for cash or aren't necessarily able to donate, but if anyone is, I thought I would put a link here to our donation pages:

Thanks for reading and possibly considering a pledge!
