Why I hate my job

Ok, so I don't actually hate my job. I just started working full time after interning at the same large company for two summers. Two weeks in, they suddenly ban Subsonic! I can't even check into the forums at all, much less listen to the music. Now what'll I do during coffee breaks?!

I know I can't listen to the streams, or get into the chat either. But, I could check the forums during my breaks/lunch, but that time is so precious that I don't want to sit in front of a computer during work and those breaks.

REVOLT!!!!!
here's a question, do they have available wifi? I had this same problem with the chat....the streams, and forums still work but the chat is blocked.......no idea why, when I'm on the chat I'm not doing any actual work (I guess they just want me to sit here and stare at the wall). Anywho, what I did was just build a wifi computer, nothing special just something cheap (technically free) to get on the chat. If you can do that that is your best bet.

Blech. I can't get the 128k, scheduled or background streams at work but the rest of it is apparently acceptable to the filter. I feel for ya.

I wouldn't know what to do if they banned it here at work. It's my only solitude while dealing with all the crap de la crap that goes on here in the office

See this is why you need to work in IT.. like me. That way you set the rules!!!!
Ban everyone else but me!
You could get a laptop with broadband access... kinda pricey but will work. OR you could try bribing the IT guy..sometimes that works.
Not to stand up for the IT guys... but the streaming uses a lot of bandwidth and I generally block it too. Not sure why they would block the site/forums, but each company has its own policy.

if you are listening to music from the site, you are streaming.
They frequently block IRC Chat because "only hackers and bad people" use it (or so someone thinks.

Too bad, Esmeralda! (And everyone else who ends up blocked!)
Where I work, well, I'm in a computer lab... so the only real restrictions we have on access is where downloading software is concerned. Drives the students crazy because they can't download random software onto the PC they are using, for fun... or for homework.
My bigger issue was just getting an OK from my boss to wear headphones so I can listen to SSR while at work. She was good with it because she knows I'll actually take them off to talk to students who need help. Some of my past co-workers didn't have that much common sense about them. Hehehe.

That would stink! You should go get a different job. Subsonic makes my days so much happier -- I just close my eyes and pretend I am on the rides and planning what I am going to eat next!
So we are streaming when we listen to the radio station . . . hhhhmmm. I work at a University and I have to imagine half the people here are streaming something.

When I had my old laptop I lost the ability to stream. Drove me crazy. I was able to access the forum, but not the music streams. When I got my new laptop about a year ago I begged the IT guy. So far, I can still stream.
