on the tree, we do blinking (though I would rather get chase lights, they just look cooler). on the house, they're steady, as we can't get them to blink in unison (though I'd kind of like to do the chase lights here, too). I want to do one of the set-ups like that Wizards of Winter video out there (see here). I saw a cheap ersion of this at a local store for like $70. the only thing is, you can't use your own music on it. it has like 10 preset songs on it, and it's mostly christmas carols or trans-siberian knock-off.

On the tree I like steady. I don't want flashing lights in the house. But outside the flashing are fine (however we have only steady out there too).

It depends on what kind of decorations are outside. We go for a more majestic look, so all our lights are steady white lights. I think the steady lights feel more peaceful and serene, almsot like snow. The colorful blinking lights look better with "fun" displays like those giant balloon decortions and whatnot. However, blinking white lights are a big no-no for me for some reason. (I think I have OCD about Christmas decoartions  )

I use the 8 function light strings on the tree, I usually set it to WAVE since it is the better of the 6 real function (1 is steady on, and 1 is all together). Outside I use my Light O Rama setup to make the lights dance. I used to have just steady on lights on the tree but I got bored with that after 20 years (first 19 years on my parents tree) and decided to get the multi function. The only thing I have against the multi function lights is that sometimes when you turn them on they switch to a different function. Then you have to switch them back, witch is easy to do but sometimes it is rather annoying.

Cheshy, don't get me started on those blowup decorations I HATE those things, I think they are bringing down the quality of displays.

We do a combo at our house. We do about 3 strings of steady lights, and then one that has a nice sequential/rhythmic blinking that goes from the top to the bottom. It make for a nice effect where most of the tree is balanced with the steady, but the animated string adds some movement.

Nope no blinky. Just steady lights on our tree.
I would like the blow up Mickey though. But won't.

No blinking in the house. I don't want a migraine from looking at the tree. I don't mind if the lights outside blink, but I prefer that 'lights chasing each other' scrolling look to just on and off blinking.
