Besides the zoo, what are your favorite things to do in San Diego? Where is a nice, relatively upscale place to stay besides the Hotel Del Coronado?

I've been living in SD for the past year and a half, and have visited frequently throughout my whole life. I'd suggest hanging out downtown in the Gaslamp Quarter. They've got a lot of great hotels there, and they've put a lot of effort into making it a great place to go and have fun. It's completely different than a lot of other down town areas across the nation, and you can always find great places to go. While the Zoo is a part of Balboa Park, I would highly suggest checking out the rest of Balboa Park, as there a ton of different museums and performance areas, and there is almost always something going on there. There is also the Wild Animal Park, which is outside of downtown. SDs north county also has a wonderful vibe, and you could head up to Del Mar and check out the horse races, or Encinitas and Carlsbad and go walking through a nice CA small town. You could of course check out the Padres and Chargers, depending on when you're visiting too.

Hard to say, whenever we're there, we stay with my parents in law. The area down by Seaport Village is nice and we always enjoy that. We also like going to Point Loma. It is cheap to get in, $5 per car, and there is a lot to do. There are three museums (Cabrillo Natl Monument, the Lighthouse, and military installations from WWII). There are also some tide pools that are great to watch.

Have fun on your trip.

Yeah I agree with the two above posters, but I would also add go up and check out Mount Soledad by La Jolla, you get a great view of downtown San Diego and the Pacific Ocean, plus it has a nice memorial to war veterans.

My sister has lived in San Diego for a very long time. She tells me she wouldn't live anyplace else. I've never been there, but I know she loves it!
