Da Vinci Code
So there seems to be a ton of press about this movie and it's getting really terrible reviews - anyone planning on seeing it or have any thoughts on it one way or the other (good or bad)?

I'd kinda like to see it. I don't take reviews seriously as one person may think the movie sucks, but I may like it.

It's not one person, though... the site rottentomatoes.com compiles reviews from ALL OVER... print, internet, tv, etc... and it gets a 19%, currently.
For comparison, "Poseidon" gets 28%, "RV" gets 24%, and the Lindsay Lohan (puke) vehicle "Just My Luck" gets 10%...
Honestly, I haven't read the book. But as a Catholic, the number of people taking this fictional work at is word as a historical text is starting to offend me.
IT'S. A. NOVEL. Not real. People don't seem to get that. That may well be a testament to Dan Brown's writing ability, but the movie, apparently, falls short, pretty hard.

I saw RV a few weeks ago it was really funny, it brought back so many memories of my family vacations! There were 3 teenages girls sitting off to the side of me they busted a gut through the whole movie, I am not sure if I would have laughed as hard if they weren't there.
I plan on going to see the DaVinci Code today. I will let you know what I think (oh thats just what we need another review, ha ha). I just hope it is at the very least entertaining and holds my interest. I heard the chemestry between Hanks and the leading lady is so not there. But I shall see in about 4 hrs!! I did not read the book so I won't be bothered if it doesn't follow the book closely.

Just spoke with a great friend who saw it last night - said it was a total snoozefest!
That is pretty much what the critics are calling it too - so I think I'll wait for the DVD on this one.

I saw it last night. And enjoyed it very much. I found the end a little slow though.
I have also read the book. This is a guess, as I have not talked to people who have seen the movie who have NOT read the book, but I'll bet it got bad reviews because they are throwing so much information at you. I could definitely see how someone who hasn't read the book would get confused by the DaVinci Code and thus rate the movie bad.
I guess you have to like those type of "the next clue" movies. It's along the line of National Treasure with more controversy.
It IS a lot of information to take in at one time.

I liked National Treasure. When a friend of mine was here, we watched it on DVD then went into Boston to check out some of the places that were in the movie. I had already seen them but my friend hadn't.
I grew up Catholic but honestly knew little about the Crusades and the beginning of the Catholic church, etc., (I didn't pay attention in school either..ha ha ha) I didn't realize how cruel the Roman Catholic church was even to it's own. That is in the history books its not fiction. So as a person who grew up in the Catholic church for 40+ yrs it didn't bother me to see it.
I didn't take anything in the Da Vinci code so seriously that it would influence my thinking on Christianity. You have to take it for what it is a movie and then do your own research for the truth.
The history channel all week had some very interesting stuff in relation to the DaVinci code, not the fictional stuff but historical stuff on Opus Dei, the free Masons, the Knights Templar, the Priory of etc. it was very interesting.
Now I wish I had paid more attention in school...ha ha ha
On a much lighter note I think I am going to go see Hoodwinked this weekend
ha ha ha I meant Over the Hedge.......I've already seen Hoodwinked

I watched a lot of the Da Vinci Code stuff on the History Channel also. Almost everything that Dan Brown has said in interviews that is true in the book turns out to be either false or not provable, so I find it most interesting how many people think its true.
I don't plan on seeing the movie in the theater, but I probably get the dvd from the library when it comes out.
