What do you guys think of myspace?
In my opinion, it is an amazing site that can be very useful to keep in touch with friends, relatives, coworkers and online buddies.
It is very addicting, and a fun place to be.
The things that I don't like about myspace are the people on there who don't know a thing about web design and coding, so most profiles load slowly, with several embedded videos, strange and inconsistant page widths, and transparent text and tables.
ince I am not in this category, my page is set up like a personal site, neat and organized. Myspace replaced my personal site and blog, simply because it will get so much more traffic and feedback.
What do the forum members on subsonic radio (you) think about myspace?
Do you have a profile set up?
Post yours here.

I just made an account a few days ago after much peer pressure, but I can't figure out how to use the thing!

Don't worry. There are a ton of places on the internet for help for this.

A friend of mine asked me to join cause she and I can never seem to catch up with each other, so I did. My son is on there and he had me on his friends list which his friends thought was so cool. I was on there for about 4 months, and was able to really keep in touch with my friend in Cali, but I felt like it was for a much younger crowd than myself (I am 48) so I canceled my profile. While I was on there, I did have some men I didn't know try to talk to me, asking me to add them to my friends list but I was certainly not on there for that. It just wasn't my cup of tea.

My friend finally got me to join last august.
I had refused to join up until then. I thought it was really stupid. But now I wish I had joined a long time ago.

I'm personally not the biggest fan of this site and right now I won't let my kids put profiles on it - maybe when they're older and more responsible. It has great potential, but there has just been too much abuse on it as of late and a lot of people have been victimized.

I think that if you're children are 16 or older, you should let them on it. If not, then they shouldn't really be doing anything on that site.
And the reason why it seems like myspace is so much more dangerous than other places on the internet is because its so popular. The same reason why a death at WDW makes big news. Stuff like this happens elsewhere, like on AOL and many chatrooms and forums. It's just the media that overhypes it, because myspace is really popular right now..
But I'm glad you're being responsible.

Well, to be honest, I've seen some things on MySpace.com that really 16 and 17 year old kids shouldn't be seeing or reading, so I'm not sure I want them on there even at that age. There are definitely some great things there - a lot of Christian bands, for instance, have sites on MySpace and there are a lot of good kids on MySpace, too. I'm just not willing to allow the risk to creep in from MySpace (or any chatroom, forum).

Aklrulz, you have the right frame of mind and I think you should really stick to your values and beliefs, they will never steer you wrong. Parental supervision is the key to anything like myspace but there are parents out there that unfortunately don't know all the dangers or use the "it won't happen to my kid" mentality. Stick to your guns on this one.
