Phillies magic number is now 4 with 9 to go! The Big 3 are shaping up to be a force in the NL. Hanson did pitch a really good game for the Braves until they relieved him and that game winning double was awefully close to being foul. I was at the game and didn't get to see all the replays yet but from where I was it was real close!

99soulz - That magic number should decrease rapidly. The Bravos have another 3 games against the Nats coming up!

Go NATS!! I'm going to be in DC next week and was thinking of going to one of the games when the Phils come into town. Was thinking they'll clinch when there but you may be right, could be this weekend when your boys can play the spoiler to the Braves!!

99Soulz - If you decide to hit a game next week PM me and I'll see if I can get free to meet up with you. May have to bring my oldest son with me as he is NATS crazy, though. Just let me know.

Jacca - You're invited as well, if you want. ;)

Final weekend of the season. Last chance to head over to Fenway. Unfortunately I'll have to put up with obnoxious Yankee fans.

Anyway.....

For those of us without a dog in the fight, who ya got for the pennant winners and ultimate World Series champs?

The AL I think goes to Tampa Bay. Unless the Yankees suddenly find someone besides Charleston Chew Sabathia to pitch well. If Pettitte can regroup tonight agains Boston, it might give them some hope. Tampa's offense is suspect but it may not matter against NY in a possible ALCS. Burnett has been terrible and I don't think Nova or Moseley are the answer to Vazquez. Heck, the Yanks may not make it past Minnesota or Texas (depending on how the weekend goes will determine the ALDS match ups).

The NL I think goes to Philadelphia. The lineup is just too good. If Atlanta can straighten out the starters and get them on a roll, that could change. While SF and Cincinnati are nice stories (much like Texas in the AL) I don't think they have the horses. While both Atlanta and Philly have great starting pitching, Philly's bullpen is a touch better. Many of these games come down to the bullpens. Middle relief more so than the closer. If the closer is in, generally you have the lead with three or four outs to go. (I think Wagner is better than Lidge) Philly's line up is much better than Atlanta's.

So, Philly and Tampa all over again for the whole thing. And Philly wins it in six.

Then again, I could be completely wrong and SF beats Minnesota in seven.........

I think Tampa is the class of this whole thing. I don't think the Yankees have the horses to survive. To me it looks like Texas and Minnesota are just filler. I see Tampa just moving through this whole thing like a machine.

I disagree with your assessment of the pitching in the national league. I think the Philies starters are better then Atlanta's. I think Atlanta's bullpen is the class of the national league. Looks like it's coming down to the fact that Philies had their injuries early in the season and Atalanta had theirs late. Both Phillie and Atlanta have handled Cinci and SanFran all season. I don't think either one is going to be much trouble.

I believe it's gonna be Tampa and Philly in the series and Tampa takes it in 5. I just can't imagine Philly holding up to Tampa's onslaught.

PS I am an Atlanta fan and pray that Atlanta can survive to get into the series!! ;+>

I think that Atlanta's bullpen is good. I think it gets much better if Saito is pitching. If he can come back and pitch like he's capable, then I like the Brave's pen more than the Phils. If not, I'm not sure O'Flaherty and Venters can hold the fort. I trust Moylan but those other two would scare me. Especially Venters in his first full season in the bigs.

Atlanta/Philadelphia would be a great series to watch.

I'm starting to drink the dark horse Kool-Aid. I think it will be the Twins emerging from the AL. Aside from David Price, I don't think the Rays can hold up pitching-wise in a series. Plus they aren't going to have ANY type of home field advantage in any game they play. It's too easy to select the Yankees and I don't think the Rangers are the same without a healthy Hamilton. I think the Twins are the most complete team going into this thing.

I would love to see the Reds shock some people in the post-season like they have all year but I think they are a year or two away. I'll be blunt... the Braves can't beat the Nationals so I can't pick them to win anything (sorry Jacca). Right now it is down to the Giants pitching and the Phillies hitting/pitching. The Phils have 3 great starters and the bats to go with it. The Giants only have the pitching; they can't score any runs. So, it looks like it will be Philly coming out of the NL.

Let's go with the upset and say the Minnesota Twins beat out the Phillies in dramatic game 7 fashion.

I think part of my thinking is because I went to college in Tampa and there is a soft spot in my heart for the Bay area!

Jacca - I lived in Florida for 30 years so I would love to see the Rays win it all and get more fan support. Unfortunately, the owner has already stated that he is breaking up the team no matter what this off-season. So, it looks like this is their last chance for a while.

I don't think I can blame him since they are getting 12,000 fans when they have the chance to clinch their division. I just don't like the owner saying it right before the playoffs. Bad timing.

That's embarrassing. I'm sorry if that offends anyone here from Tampa (or St. Pete since that's where that fun house that they pass off for a major league stadium is located).

To be completely honest (and this is coming from a life long Red Sox fan) I would want another Yankees/Phillies World Series. Two quality teams with extremely passionate fans. Fan reaction to plays on the field make baseball (and especially playoff baseball) that much more exciting.
