Where in Jersey was it that cheap? The best cash I can get is $1.97.

It is so odd to me that there are two different prices (cash and credit), I guess things just dont work like that out here in the sticks, lol. Our current ABQ price is 1.22 cash or credit - :) blue

Wow almost less than $2? I thought I would never see the day again.

Gas is $2.24 here in Rhode Island. Ever since I've had my license at 18, gas has always been more than $2 a gallon so I would love to get gas cheaper than $2 someday...

I remember back when I was living in GA (Brunswick area) back in 2001-2002. I was paying $0.75/gallon. I could fill my tank for about $10. when I left in September 2002, it was up to $1.25. when I got back to Buffalo it was at $1.83. that was the cheapest I recall for this area. It may have been about $1.50 when I started driving back in '96, but I don't remember...

Man, what I would give to see gas as low as $0.75 all around the globe. All we need is this economy to pick up.

Gas will probably never be $.75 again unfortunately. When I started driving at sixteen gas was $.99 a gallon. When I first moved to Gainesville in 2000 I was paying around $1.10, could fill my tank for $13.00. That was the day. It is nice to be able to fill the tank for around $25.00 now, but I want to go back to the $13.00 days.

I equate the gas prices to boiling frogs. If you throw a frog into boiling water it will jump right out. Now if you put a frog in a pan of water and slowly heat it up the frog will stay and boil. This is just like our gas prices.

I remember when I started driving as a kid in Ft Myers Fl, Gas prices were about 75 cents. They went up to 99 cents and slowly rose to where they are today.

In the last year and a half they went over $4 very quickly. Now they're back down to about $2 and we are all talking how cheap gas is. I feel like that frog in the pot with the water getting hot slowly.

Great analogy. Although, if you look at the price of gas, adjusted for inflation, the past twenty years have had our lowest gas prices in the twentieth century. You can find a chart here.

Very interesting. I didn't know inflation had such an impact. It's crazy to think that buying gas in the '20s was like spending almost as much as I'm paying now...

Im just happy to see it getting lower - however - OPEC is such a joke - and if they feel that they are not making as much money as they should be, they will just find a way to screw (sorry) us again. Auto makers really need to come up with a different type of car if they plan on surviving into the future.
ok - rant over

I just saw a news article yesterday that said oil was down to about $60/barrel. with demand dwindling, OPEC has no choice but to lower prices.

The one upside to the stock market troubles has been the price of gas coming down, IMO.

In my neck of the woods, it's gone from just under $4 a gallon to $1.85 a gallon.

Let's hope that when/if the economy picks up, gas prices stay down.

I hope so. What's helping, I think, is that the downturn forced the Hedge Funders out of the market to a big degree. Get out while they can.

My governor has been talking for months about jacking up the gas tax to insane amounts to "force us" to use less gas. Last I checked, he's still pushing for this, even though he knows many people here commute 30+ miles each way to work every day. That'd be just great. Get the price down to a decent amount, and then jack it right back up with stupid taxes when everyone's scraping pennies as it is. Now is not the time to try to "regulate [our] gas usage" with heavy fees and taxes, IMO.
