I was accepted into Florida as an underclassman. It ended up just being a bit too far away and a bit too expensive for me back then. ;) I tend to cheer for Florida, assuming they aren't playing my Buckeyes.
I fully understand and salute you!!

I played Alto Saxophone for about 9 years through Elementary/Middle School/High School. I used to sing pretty decent... and like Mmeleota I can play a mean handbell. I tinker with the guitar when I get the chance but nothing formal.

Looks cute, sounds a little like a tiny mountain violin? Can see where it might be more difficult if you are not ambidextrous...
They actually make left handed instruments, but usually they have to be special ordered. I can bow with my right hand, but it's much more comfortable to bow with my left hand dominant. Someday I'd like to get into double-bowing so I can play harmonies and quick tempos.
Talked with the bagpipers backstage in Canada when we were on a tour at WDW once and they suggested a chanter which sounds like a bagpipe but without the bag or pipes! I was too busy admiring the cute 6 foot-tall-plus men in kilts to act any further on the matter
Ah! That's what a chanter is for! I have seen them on the sites where folk instruments are sold (like the psaltery) but I didn't realize the exact purpose. Thanks!

NaCler, it's nice to meet a fellow ringer (ding-a-ling as we call ourselves )! I usually get blank stares when I tell people that I ring handbells!

As far as the recorder goes, I loved playing it! We had really nice instruments and I still have it and pick it up from time to time...though I don't always remember the notes.

Nope, I'm right there with ya. Years of Sunday night practice before church and way too many times polishing those suckers. Since I was able to read bass clef and am a big guy I usually had the BIG lower octave.

Those are a blast to ring (though I cannot ring anything below a B3 with much grace)!!!! How far down did you guys have?
I love solo ringing, though I don't have much time to practice. I'm hoping one day I will be able to save enough to get my own set so I can practice whenever I'd like to.
As far as my "normal" ringing position goes, I can ring anywhere...but my assignment is usually A5 & B5.

Good topic!!

I played xylophone in 3rd grade, Recorder in 6th grade, and Trumpet and French Horn in Junior High. Lately I've dabbled a bit with piano and guitar, but have a long way to go before I could ever play anything publicly with either of those.

My DW (Mouseoholic) is an accomplished pianist, though she is far too modest to own up to it. She used to teach piano, but gave it up because she just got burned out. At one point she actually wrote a piano composition that won a prize in a State-wide competition, so she really has talent. I wish she would play more often. Hearing her play was one of the things that attracted me to her in the beginning of our relationship. Maybe if I got our piano tuned...

WOW! Way to go Mouseoholic! I have long loved pianists (keyboardists, organists, and the like)...I love watching their fingers on the keyboard.

It's amazing how many musically talented people are here!

We should start our own Disney Orchestra!

It's a been awhile so I am not exactly sure. I wanna say that normally we played 3-4 octaves. I'm not sure on the lowest bell but I believe it was a (?)2 and needed both of my hands and a good force to get that to ring. It was always a crowd pleaser.

Well, mindflipper already asked that question, so you'll have to fight over it... ;)

But he also mentioned the triangle so maybe he can play that instead...

I believe the 2's are the bottom 6th octave, but it's possible that though not all the bells were played, perhaps the 2 was used on certain occasions. We usually play 3 full octaves with the lowest note a C4, but on a recent song we used a G3. We have 5 octaves of bells (lowest note a C3), but never get to use them anymore since we don't have enough ringers. :(

kcarts...I love the air guitar!!! :)

I got not a musical bone in my body for instruments. Nope, can't play the triangle or the kazoo. I even failed my class in air guitar too.
