I think I would just call and ask. Then, if the police actually do something about it (which I doubt they will), they will search my computer and find NOTHING. Because I have NOTHING. Seriously, this guy needs to grow a couple of brain cells to rub together.
I think the RIAA is WAAAAAAAAAAAY out of line; I had no idea anyone actually supported them. It's not like any money that actually goes to them goes to the artists. They really need to collectively CHILL.

Only thing is that not many of us CAN legally download. :P I'm down to about seven dollars on my iTunes account since I keep purchasing applications on my iPod Touch.

There is no such thing as illegally downloading music. What is illegal and what got everyone in trouble with Napster (remember that?) and Kazaa is sharing the music. The ones who were sued provided music for other people to download. It is similar to the people who sell pirated DVDs, it is not illegal to receive a pirated DVD, it is illegal to distribute the pirated DVD. Yes, by downloading pirated music, you are denying the artist his pay, but that is an issue of morality, not legality.

Back in my high school days we used to tape record music off the radio. I guess you can still do that if you have a recorder. Doesn't that seem illegal as well?

No, because that music has been provided for the purpose of free distribution, and radios don't play the whole album, just one or two songs, you still have to go to the store to purchase the album if you want the whole thing. Radios are a great means of advertising for music producers; theoretically find the best song on the album, give to the radio stations for free, they play, people like it and want to hear more of it, they buy the album. At least that is how it worked before Napster. The more you record the song and give it to your friends who haven't heard it, the more free advertising the artist gets; you just can't sell it, but giving it is okay. It is the original viral marketing scheme.

I just read an article stating that the RIAA will no longer sue people who share music. The new plan is for internet service providers to give warnings and then cancel service if sharing continues.

Heck, if the RIAA had its way, they'd fine people for humming songs. I get most of my stuff off iTunes as well, then I burn it to CDs and rip it back onto my computer as MP3s to strip out the DRM.

It's inconvenient when iTunes doesn't have the stuff you want, and you actually have to find the CD.

How are they planning to enforce this? If it's by bandwidth usage, there will be a lot of ISP's sending warnings to innocent people. I know for one, my company sends or receives a packet of information twice-a-day that is roughly around 2.5GB.

Actually it is by the same ways they have been doing it for years. They can actually track the torrents to the feeder and then out to all the leeches. I like it better this way, they won't sue a grandmother for something their grandchild did by mistake or on purpose. And I with of many sources their are for music these days it is almost pointless to steal music anymore. I think maybe the RIAA realized that they were only hurting themselves by paying high priced lawyer to prosecute for minescule return.

Or you could try Amazon.........DRM free music......

OK the last time I asked the name of a song it was to be able to buy the CD at an actual store. I think the DJ needs a nice long vacation.

To me, it seems like the attitude of a lot of people who are avid "downloaders" is one of "I'm owed instant gratification" and "one little track is not going to hurt anyone". It's the same mindset as petty shop-lifters...a 25 cent candy won't hurt the store, right? And neither will that nice shopping cart?

And yeah, that DJ definitely needs to take a chill pill. But in today's world of "who cares", it's surprising that more of us haven't cracked.
