What was the focus on the family conference like?

The first one we went to was called the "Truth Project" it was good, a mix of history, belief and apologetics. The second one was a teen conference on apologetics. Focus on the Family does a great job with these conferences. they have them in whats called a Cafetorium. which is as it sounds a mix of cafeteria and auditorium. This made it nice to be sipping on a coffee while listening to the speaker. Colorado Springs is a beautiful town. a bit difficult to get around and understand the town lay out on the first visit. Focus on the Family is right next to I-25, and right next to a strip mall complex and a block away from the mall. so food and other amenities are very close by...my preference is "Salt Grass Steak House" oh man that place is great!Hawkeye wrote:Croaker wrote:Here are a couple of pictures we took while at a Focus on the Family Conference in Colorado Springs. too bad i left the family at home! laugh just kidding. they are behind the 35th tree in the third picture fourth rock formation to the right below the ridgeline....look close you will see my daughter waving.

SeasDiver, my dad and I just got our Advanced Open Water Cert!! We've only gone diving in the quarry where we were certified, what would you recommend as the #1 place to dive? We'd like to do a diving trip next year, any pointers you have would be great! Would love to see some of your pictures from your trip. How long have you been diving?!
That does sound nice, i've heard some speakers that talked about apologetics, and it was pretty boring (granted it was back when i was in early high school, so less of an attention span i'm sure) but i'm sure it would be more interesting to me now, and especially if i could have a nice cup of coffee. I've always thought it would be interesting to visit....Croaker wrote:Hawkeye wrote:The first one we went to was called the "Truth Project" it was good, a mix of history, belief and apologetics. its truly set up like a small community college. the building has offices and classrooms while the Cafetorium is the main hall. the Bookstore is the only side note of the campus that is to visit. I would suggest to anyone visiting Colorado Springs / Denver to have other activities planned as well as Focus on the Family...its just not a full day activity. we took our girls to Water World in Denver on our way back from the Apologetics conference. Frank Turek was the main speaker and Shawn McDowell finished the conference. he is son of Josh McDowell and just as powerfull and entertaining as his dad.

Boilerbabe,
With an Indiana address, did you get certified in Lake Michigan or did you go up to Pearl Lake? I got my OW in Lake Michigan, my AOW+ and Rescue in Pearl Lake and my Divemaster and Master Diver in Florida. I have been certified since 1990. I have ~650 logged dives with about 400 hrs of bottom time. This includes 17 dives with Mickey Mouse and 8 underwater marriage proposals on behalf of other people (got to love the fringe benefits of having worked at The Living Seas).
Some of my pictures from Bonaire can be found on my wife's website: amygelfand[dot]com/bonaire .
My dive travel has been somewhat limited; Texas Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sancutary, West Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale and Epcot DiveQuest in Florida, various lakes, and Bonaire.
My wife and I did Bonaire as a group trip through our dive shop. It was fantastic. The fish were plentiful, the reefs were stunning. And the entire island is protected marine sanctuary so the conditions of all of the reefs are spectacular. However, that is the only international trip I have done so I can not compare it to other locations.

Hey Seasdiver!
WOW! I'm impressed, Master Diver and you've worked at the Living Seas!
We live near IL so we did our OW and AOW at Haigh Quarry in Kankakee IL. Not much to see there, but good practice! Would love to do some wreck dives in Lake Mich. through our dive shop though. When we visit WDW in 9 days, we're doing Dive Quest at EPCOT, and cannot wait! How did you get to dive with Mickey Mouse?! I didn't know the Mouse was a diver!
I'll have to check out the pics. on your wife's web site! Thanks!!!

Well back at the end of April I graduated from college and my parents graduation gift was a trip to Ireland. My best friend from high school also graduated so he came along and it was awesome.

Then at the beginning of August I came back out to Cali for my best friend's wedding, I got to be the best man!

Then just a weekend ago, I rented one of the planes that I teach in and flew over to Chicago and landed at Chicago's Midway airport.

Hope everyone enjoyed these photos, hopefully it wasn't too long!!

Sometimes the bluest part of the sky seems so far away from us, I guess thats what keeps us striving for it...

As you can see this year has been a traveling one for me. Devils Tower/Colorado Springs/Disney/and a few more but this one is of my Daughter and I at Special Olympics in Jackson Hole Wyoming (back in February). Mom and sister couldn’t make it so we had to suffer all alone on this trip.(poor us. Laugh) here is a shot from our room at the Snow King Lodge which is right in Jackson. The resort has ski in and out accommodations and a great deal for those staying at the Hotel…Wednesday Night free skiing!

Wednesday and Thursday are Event Days here we are at the course layout. My Daughter received the Bronze and 2 Silver at the State games this year.

just a 4 hour drive and we are home, but I couldn’t pass up this picture….yup a cattle drive! This is part of the reason why I love Wyoming….we are so old school! Heck Carl Johnson from down the street just got himself one of them new fangled A.M. Radio’s. pretty soon people out hear will have that indoor plumbing…pfft…a toilet in the house…what will they think of next?

I went to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. (about a 6 hr drive from home in Prince Edward Island).
This is the cabin we stayed at:

And the view out the front window

Drove through the Cabot Trail

Then we went whale watching

This panoramic shot I took on the Ferry on our way home. Unfortunatly the cloudy side is home, the sunny side is away
haha
