How ever much i would love to say KEEP IT. i would have to say call the police.

Reminds me of edward scissorhands where he is asked what to do with the money.

I'd have to go with the folks who are saying call the police; if they run into a dead end finding the owner, they might just give it back and tell you to keep it. Actually, I don't even know how interested most police are in playing "lost and found." They might just tell you to keep it from the start, especially if they don't have any reports of a lost/stolen laptop.

If it happened to me, I'd give it to the police - I'm strictly Mac anyway

I found out it was a gift one of my clients gave me. he bought 1 and he wanteds another one. so he decided to just give me the old one and he bought a new one. he wondered if i had ever guess it was him. I'm glad I decided to keep it.

yeah though he lost the cds so I just use it as a terminal and keep files on my main pc

I'm glad to hear it worked out well for you. Still, if it's supposed to be a gift, the guy could have at least put a bow on it or something. These days if a bag is left somewhere and no one knows where it came from it can be blown up in case it contained a bomb or something. Imagine how the guy would feel then?

OK, so I tend to err on the side of caution (and just a little paranoia). But better safe than sorry.
