I'd have to go with the folks who are saying call the police; if they run into a dead end finding the owner, they might just give it back and tell you to keep it. Actually, I don't even know how interested most police are in playing "lost and found." They might just tell you to keep it from the start, especially if they don't have any reports of a lost/stolen laptop.
If it happened to me, I'd give it to the police - I'm strictly Mac anyway
P.S. Are there any new developments?

Keep it lol! And maybe your daughter was too pre-occupied!eagle4life69 wrote:Okay today was a wierd day. my daughter was outside playing with her friends and I was upstairs. I here the Doorbell ring and I go to answer it. it take a minute to get downstairs and to the front door. I answer the door and no one was there. hmmmmmmmmmm i thought just before I close the door i look down and see a black bag sitting on my front door step. I picked it upo and I see it has a huge HP logo on it. At this point my hands started to shake I was so excited. I open it up it is a Laptop computer. it wasn't in a box but a travel bag. i nearley threw up front the excitement ( have wanted a laptop for so long). Now here is the problem. I have no idea where it came from. what should I have done. Answer the poll to tell me

I'm glad to hear it worked out well for you. Still, if it's supposed to be a gift, the guy could have at least put a bow on it or something. These days if a bag is left somewhere and no one knows where it came from it can be blown up in case it contained a bomb or something. Imagine how the guy would feel then?
OK, so I tend to err on the side of caution (and just a little paranoia). But better safe than sorry.
