Remember how I told you about cat #4: Nikki? If not, see back here:

Well, our local paper recently ran an article about the "10 people who made a difference in 2009". One of the ten is a woman named Cameron Moore. Cameron is the head of the Lucky Cats Adoption Agency, and personally fostered Nikki until she got adopted. Cameron also works for First Coast No More Homless Pets, an affordable vet service that neuters & spays cats. That organization worked on Friskette and her kittens (Tiger, Heckle, Jeckle, and Bobtail) in getting them their shots and getting neutered, and Cameron worked on helping getting the cats through their day at FCNMHP. I'm glad to see that Cameron got some recognition:

When most people go into Petco and PetSmart, they don't realize just how much work - time and personal expense - these volunteers donate in housing & fostering these cats until they get adopted. So, the next time you're in one of those stores, if you can't adopt a cat, consider making some small donation. Every dollar helps!
Next time: the final chapter on Friskette and the kittens. I finally got some current pics from the people caring for the cats now...

I have a regular payroll deduction set up to benefit a couple of animal protection agencies here in Houston. I wish I was in a position to foster some cats, but I already have two indoor-only cats who are very territorial, and I don't have room for more. I live in a townhome with no yard, so there's really nowhere for an outdoor cat to hang out either if I wanted one. But oh well....
Keep up the good work, Mindflipper. Looking forward to the rest of the story.

I would describe my cat as "violently territorial", which is why I had temporarily foster the five cats (Friskette and her kittens) over my brothers. He has a very old bulldog, but the only thing he wants to do is hug them and lick them to death. Needless to say, they wanted to keep their distance from him! But as I can't foster either, I do make regular donations and gifts of catfood.

PART SEVEN: TAIL-END OF THIS TALE
This last past has taken some time to prepare. The photos I am using are not taken by me, but by the cat adoption agency. Here's the latest on all five cats:
FRISKETTE
The mother with the kittens went to a new foster. Her new foster was very impressed with Friskette, and two quickly bonded. Friskette went immediately on Saturdays for exhibition to Petco visitors. Here are her "glamor shots" that were used for Petfinder.com:

She was shy in the cage, but eventually she got adopted. A woman whose elderly father moved in with her came into Petco, and her elderly father picked Friskette. His daughter doubted his selection, because a week later Friskette was still hiding under the bed, but she was assured this behavior is temporary phase in the cat adopting to the new home. I just found out last week that everything has worked out for Friskette. Her new home shyness passed, and she has fully bonded with her new family. I'm told she and the elderly father sit together during the day together and play and hang together, and he enjoys petting her and rubbing her. It turns out to be a perfect match. Unfortunate news to her last foster; upon finding out about the adoption, she cried and cried about it. If Friskette's family ever returns her, the foster will take her back and keep her.
TIGER AND JECKLE
Tiger and Jeckle never would socialize with any of the fosters. In fact, Tiger upon reaching the new foster's home scratched one of agency volunteers and then ran off and hid in the foster's garage. They tried to hunt her down, but could not find her. Eventually, they had to put out a trap with food to get Tiger back. Jeckle was always timid, and changing fosters did not help. The head of the agency deemed them non-adoptable, and the my co-worker who works with the agency decided to take them home with her as her outdoor cats. Here they are now grown-up living in their new home:

Both cats have charmed her husband into getting special treatment. He feeds them personally separately from the other cats, and they get let into the garage so they can play around in the garage.
HECKLE AND BOBTAIL
Bobtail has been at Petco on Saturdays, and has had his "glamor shots" for Peto:

So far, no takers. Bobtail and Heckle both will let people pick them up, rub and scratch them, give them love, and play with them. The problem with both is that they don't come to you, you have to go to them. It's a possible problem with their adoption. Heckle used to always be hectic (my nickname for her was "Heckle the Hectic") because she would never stay still. However, that has changed:

She loves to sit next the foster on the sofa and get scratched. Bobtail will follow her around the house and likes to be with her, but still will not come right up to her. I feel if they have progressed this far, they will get better. I hope they will give both more time as I would like to see them adopted.
If you ever go to Petco or PetSmart, and you see the cages with the cats and dogs up for adoption, you can know that a lot of work goes into getting these cats available for adoption. A lot of time and effort on behalf of many people behind the scenes, and they don't get paid for any of this work. It's all volunteer. If you can't adopt a cat - and that's okay really - consider making a donation. That contribution can help pay for medical expenses (as all the cats are spayed/neutered and get all their shots), food, and cat litter. Those expenses do add up! And any donations made goes to pay for those expenses (not some other charities where less than 30% actually goes to doing the charitable work). If you do adopt a cat, for the adoption fee you're getting a bargain: the fee is substantially less than the medical expenses (spay/neuter, deworming, rabies, etc.), plus the cat has been litter-trained and checked to make sure it has passed standards for being a social, loving pet.
This is the final chapter in this story...for now.

Do your cats fight? I'm getting really over it!! They chase each other and run all over the house all times of day and night! One minute they are grooming and hugging, the next they are in a fur ball!! Daddy is about to kick some Kittie butt!

When I was taking care of all five cats at the same time, they never bickered or fought. They did friendly wrestling, but the four kittens got along better than any set of cats I have ever seen in my entire life. And even now they're split into two sets of two, each set of two are as thick of thieves. They only thing they loved more than each other was their mother. They were a great set of cats to take care of during my short term as their foster.

Those are all very nice looking cats! We should keep this topic alive! I know there's more cats out there

Re: Post a Pic of Your Cat
I'm reviving this thread after a descent haitus...
Not like anyone really cares, but I know most cat owners will understand this one...
My method of waking up this morning inlcuded my youngest kitty jumping around and making so much noise, I had no choice but to wake up. When I did, (and shined the flashlight on her) I saw her sitting there oh so pleasantly with a nice juicy bug at her paws. She had managed to kill it and was in the process of playing with it when I caught her...needless to say, she was mad at us when hubby picked it up to bury it at sea.
2 days ago, she decided to wake me up by pouncing on my feet every time I moved them...oy!
Gotta love them kitties!

Re: Post a Pic of Your Cat
MmeLeota thank you for restarted this thread!
We now have a mom (in door out door) and four kittens living on our enclosed back porch. Mom is a farm cat, Baloo and DS decided that they were gonna keep a kitten and get homes for the others. I found out we are keeping two. As soon as we get the pictures up-loaded I will post them.
PS MmeLeota don't you just love kitten play time?
