The Day the Music Died
Today marks the fiftieth anniversary of "The Day the Music Died", in which Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper died tragically in a plane crash in Iowa. I've been a Buddy Holly fan thanks to my mother and I grew up listening to his music. I learned about the Day the Music Died in my History of Rock class a few years back and I still can't believe it hit fifty years today.
I believe this article in which it didn't kill the music and that it made it both bigger and stronger. It may have died back then but many musicians still remember the day and have been influenced by the three artists fifty years later.
Were you fans of any of/all three of them? If so, what was your favorite song(s) by them? Mine will always be "Everyday" by Buddy Holly. It's soothing and it puts a warm feeling in your heart.

Yes it is a sad memory. I would say Wake Up little Suzie. It's hard to believe with what is acceptable now, how scary their music was to adults at the time. When they had a show there were protest and records being banned because of the "DANGER" of their music. I believe you can hear their songs on easy listening station now. How times have changed! (yes this was even before my time.)

Wow that was fifty years ago. I was not alive for that, but definitely enjoy the music that they made. It is a shame their lives were ended so early.

Fun Fact:
I used to work with Buddy Holly's neice. Also, her daughter and my kiddos go to the same school.
She can sing, but hasn't tried to do anything serious.
Edit: I also got to hold (but didn't want to try on) the glasses Buddy was wearing when the plane crashed. This was before they were put into the museum.

I was suprised on how undamanged they were. Some scratches and cracked lens, but not broken.elizabethswann wrote:Really? Are you serious? That almost gave me chills reading that but I'm amazed to hear that they were in pretty decent condition.FlyingMouse wrote:I was suprised on how undamanged they were. That story is true. The story that I tell about me dancing on his grave is not true. Although I have walked around it, and pondered purchasing (not real serious, though) the site that would be just above his head. The ones to his left and right are, uhhh, taken. The road is next to his feet.
