The station right down the street from me is still closed (almost a week later) but we did find a Shell with some gas this morning. Filled the tank with mid-grade (they were out of regular, but we usually get premium anyway) .. $4.29 (premium was over $4.50, so MINI will have to make do this time). I'm glad our car gets great mileage. Whoever filled up before us had a total bill of $117. Gak.

Yeah, the gas is definately starting to come back here in the ATL. I only passed one gas station that didn't have gas, although most of them only have one type of gas. However, it's still rediculously expensive compared to what the rest of you guys are paying now - I've seen it anywhere from $4.09-$4.49 :(

I know my parents live in East Tennessee, they have gas, but about 40 minutes away in Asheville they do not. Everyone keeps crossing the mountains to get to Tennessee for the gas which is driving their prices up. It's so weird, why can't the gas companies ship the gas into the places without? It doesn't make sense to me, but then there is a lot that doesn't make sense to me about gas.

I live in Michigan, and we did not experience any shortages. However, since Ike hit Texas, our gas prices have been crazy..averaging $4.40 a gallon. A few days ago, the prices started declining; in fact, I paid $3.35 a gallon this morning. That is the lowest it has been since mid-summer.

what you describe is the basis for a supply-and-demand, consumer-driven economic policy. He who has the supply can drive up the prices, and so long as thay have the "only" supply, and people are buying (as no one wants to give up their cars), they can set the price to whatever they want and they know people will pay. by creating a shortage in one area, the oil companies are driving up their prices in other areas which enhance their profits.

Wow that really stinks about your gas problem. gas prices are out of control but that story is the worst I've heard so far. The prices are bad all over, but that really bad. :(

Charlotte NC is also slowly starting to get gas back. For the first time since the hurricane hit, the price is now under $4 pretty much everywhere (some stations were charging over $5 a gallon). There are still a lot of stations without gas, but there are now enough with gas so that you can get some without having to wait in line for an hour, which was the case last week and the week before last.

Wow I am sorry to hear that alot of you experienced gas shortage issues. Here in Miohigan we never had a problem. Finally gas prices are coming down. Today, I found gas at $2.79 a gallon. I can't remember when it was that low.

$2.65 for regular, $2.85 for premium. Here's hoping it reaches $2.50 in a couple of weeks!

A week and a half ago, I was paying $4.49 for gas. Now, the cheapest I've seen it for $2.85, although most stores are in the $2.90's range.

This problem was pretty exclusive to the South, and hardest hit was Atlanta and the state of Georgia. Here in GA we have a special requirement on our petrol to have a low sulfur content, so we have to get special gas brought in. About the time Gustav hit, people were predicting this would happen due to the high demand that comes with the summer season. An attempt to get the Governor to sign a special release of the gas restriction prior to Gustav and he rejected it, stating he thought we had enough gas to get by. Well as everyone down here found out was that he made a gross overjudgement and made regular citizens pay for it.

I waited in line for 40 mins at one station and then it ran out before I could even get any gas. Amazingly after a couple of weeks gas slowly found its way here and things have returned to normal. The week of the shortage I paid $4.39, and almost a month later I am paying $2.48 for a gallon. Just amazing how the market can change!
