David Beckham makes MLS debut

Post by skipper » Aug Fri 10, 2007 9:48 pm

Ok first off We are huge La Galaxy fans, and I think David Beckham is awesome. So that bieng said I was a bit worried about how things were going for him at first but, last night he made his big MLS debut. I hope this is the start of a great thing for LA as well as the MLS. What do you all think?

I'd like the MLS to become a league full of the most talented players, but I don't think its ever going to happen. I watch the World Cup and some of the European leagues' championships but I can't ever bring myself to watch MLS.

boooo! Arsenal (although my second fav) Yeah! Manchester U....although their first match against Reading didn't excite me.. they dominated the game yet they couldn't put it in the net..tsk tsk...if their next match is like this...they are in for a long hard season. so i'll just go with what every Man. U. fan would say.....(the following are excuses) Reading looks good this year! it was the first game and the team just had to get warmed up...watch the next match! and lets not forget this one...works in any situation....They just got lucky that Man U. wasn't on.

I'm sorry, but I still don't think this is more than a failed publicity stunt. Baseball struggles to get television ratings and realistically rides on its history to keep itself alive. Hockey has never been "huge" among Americans. Soccer is almost non existent. What do they all have in common? Routinely low scoring games. Americans love to watch games where people score lots of points. Face it, we're an offensive people. I don't foresee Americans watching Soccer more just because David Beckham is here. Even if Americans win Gold in the next 2 Olympics and win 3 straight World Cups, Ratings for soccer will not increase much at all. I like soccer, I can watch it if its on, but the only people I see really excited about David Beckham are the people who know who his wingman was for his last team.

David who?

Kidding. I hope he does well in the USA.
You guys have a great set up in schools for "soccer" and some of your players make it into European teams, The superb Casey Keller for Blackburn Rovers for example. :D
I know basketball and "Football" are probably American favourites however they are a little parochial. The USA could probably produce one of the best soccer leagues in the world if it is given a chance. The sport isn’t always low scoring and aren’t you supposed to look forward to someone scoring rather than missing. It does seem to be the misses that are more noteworthy in basketball where both teams just seem to score non stop. (Perhaps if they raised the basket another 7 feet and see what happens  )

I'm sure Beckham doesn't care what happens in America....$250 million for 5 years....um..yeah,

Manchester U......they are killing me. 0-1-2 oh man. champions? ugh. Liverpool - Chelsea game was good yesterday. i'm glad they tied....keeps them lower in the points so Man. U can catch up...
