Re: Local Non-Disney Events
I completed the Evergreen Pumpkin Run here in Jacksonville, FL this morning. This race has a 10 mile and a 5k option. I ran the 10 mile and NaCler.1 ran the 5k, only his 2nd ever event. Here are some pictures:
I kept to my 2 minute run, 1 minute walk intervals and finished around 2:25. I was pretty happy about that.
Next up... probably the Subaru Distance Classic Half Marathon on Thanksgiving Day.

Awesome job NaCler and NaCler.1 ~ well done on the pace. Are they getting easier as you have more under your belt? Looks like a fun course ~ love the mossy (cypress?) tree

Re: Local Non-Disney Events
I wouldn't say easier Amy. I really was NOT prepared for this one at all. My longest training run for this race was 3.5 miles, so I started hurting about the 5 mile mark. The BEST thing about this race was that I never hit my "wall." My wall is usually at the 10 mile mark and since this one ended there, I was good.

I ran the Gettysburg Blue/Gray Half-Marathon this weekend. Nice loop'd course just north of town that - unfortunately - doesn't go through any of the National Park property (I think it is rare for the NPS to let race directors use battlefield property). Beautiful weather and beautiful countryside, gently sloping hills and a neat (weird...?) competition within the race between individuals who chose to represent the "Blue" side and individuals who chose to represent the "Gray" side. Here's me, my best pal, and my attempt to grow an old-timey mustache for the occasion:

It's amazing that there are races everywhere these days. So cool.

There was mention of an inaugural 5k sponsored by the fire department I used to volunteer for sometime in the next year. I might have to lace up the shoes for that onewewantsdaredhead wrote:That's pretty sweet!! Looks like a fun time.

I would ask for a review of it afterwards, but by the time we saw it, it would be the "3rd Annual..."

Wasn't me, but thought I would brag a little about one of my former piano students ~ ran her first marathon today and came in with a time of 4 hours and 2 minutes. That sounds really speedy to me!

Mary and I ran our local half in under her self-Imposed goal of under 12:00 minute miles. Nice!
We used this as training for Goofy.
