We are serioulsy considering it. we have a friend that lives over there that we have been trying to visit for years.
Its also during Oktoberfest and you all know me---I will jump over to the Granddaddy of all beer festivals if possible!
Once you're IN Europe, it's pretty simple to go to another country by train. I'd say go for it. We are all about trying local beers when we go somewhere, now granted it has always been in the US.

Wow ~ what a schedule! So there is a castle to chateux challenge in addition to the coast to coast now? Cool! 
That's going to be a lot of fun, and I'm impressed that you're planning that far ahead. The only races I know I'll be doing in 2018 or 2019 are (barring disaster) the Star Wars Light Side races.
