Re: sort function
Good idea, fairly simple to do. Added to my list. Again, as someone said, you can look up by most requested.FlatlandMounty wrote:In the request section...it is currently sorted alphabetically. Is there a way to set it up to sort the items by other features. Like number of times played, points cost, length of track. But I'd like to see what the least played/most played tracks are...maybe request some of the lesser heard tracks because maybe I don't know what they are.
Because of the search, that's simple enough to do. All I have to do is make a permanent search for park & land. I have something up my sleeve that's in the works for functionallity like this.FlatlandMounty wrote:...I'm not saying anything crazy like What park its from and junk...

Point Ceiling?
Hey I know the point system is supposed to (1) limit the number of requests and (2) encourage posting...
But last night I saw Eagle4Life69 request over 2 hours of songs, and it got me thinking. I've already got over 3000 points and I've been listening for about a month. Now when I request, I request like 1 or two every couple of days...but eventually everyone is going to have enough points to do what only the admins can do now.
Are there any ideas how to prevent this? Like a personal point maximum? or total requests in a row? or more expensive tracks?
Just curious...cause now, not too many people abuse their points, but it won't be long before things get out of hand.

That's a very valid question. I'm condering a few things:
Code: Select all
A maximum point value. Perhaps based on the longest track.
Limiting the amount of requests in a row
I'll most likely do both of the above.
The more one requests a track, the more it costs them.
Setting a longer falloff for those tracks (After a long while the points will lower again if the track hasn't been requested by that user)

I think that one thing that makes this site so popular (besides the great tracks) is that we get to chose what "we" want to hear. I for one am not crazy about a lot of the Epcot tracks or the Resort TV tracks so when I have to sit and listen to others requests that I don't enjoy I am glad when mine finally come up in queue so that I can have 20 min or so of what "I" want to hear. I like the varity on here, but there are times that I want to hear my favs over some of the tracks I don't enjoy as much. We all have our own tastes and what brings memories to mind when we request what we do. I for one have a lot of points but hardly use all of them, I too could tie up the station for a long time, but I usually don't have that much time in one sitting to hear all of them back to back, if I was at home and it was way early east coast time then yes I might play my hour long track, mainly because there aren't that many listeners showing online. I started listening in Nov '04 and I feel that I have earned my points to use as I like, but keeping other people in mind and using good judgement when I do use my requests. Flatlandmounty maybe once you have been on here as long as some of us have you will feel a little different about requesting. I know when I was new and started gaining points I still didn't request too much. I just enjoyed chatting in the forums. Then eventually I started enjoying the fact that I could actually request what "I" wanted to hear. There are days that I am not on here at all, but when I am, I enjoy the flexibility and uniqueness of this site. It is nice to have a say in what you get to hear. Maybe I am being selfish. Why not just let the station play random and not have requests at all, it seems like it is going in that direction. Look, I had the day from HELL at work today so I am cranky pants tonight, so take everything I have written with a grain of salt! I am in a really p*** mood!!! If I have offended anyone, I'm sorry.

Re: Point Ceiling?
Sorry about that large request. I normally don't get a chance to listen to SR anymore since my work banned internet radio, So last night I saw that we only had 13 people listening. I wanted to hear the first part of the 50th Since i never do hear it. It was a total of 38 requests and Like I said I am really sorry about that. It will never happen again. But I do have to say at least it was more random than me requesting 2 big 60 min tracks. it was more of a replay of the 50th.FlatlandMounty wrote:Hey I know the point system is supposed to (1) limit the number of requests and (2) encourage posting...

I just like an exclectic mix...I don't really even know what I like...I love the randomness...so requesting isn't really my bag...but I find it dishartening when people abuse it...just beacuse it ruins the randomness...
granted, some things are better played together, but that's what the calendar is for. Or atleast that's what I thought it was for. I'm NOT AGAINST requesting...I just don't like getting on here and seeing that dark red stacked for over half an hour. Especially when it is the same junk over and over....I go find something else to do when I see that...and I'm afraid it will happen more and more when people who aren't as curteous start gaining points.

What about implementing some of the more restrictions during say "prime time" and releasing the restricitons during late night or "after hours" (whatver those hours might be)?

as far as I know Sub is working on this.

Flatlandmounty it sounds like the ability for us to request tracks really bothers you more than anyone I have seen on this station in the almost 2 yrs I have been on here. I take it personally when you are on here complaining about too many tracks being requested by people and taking away from your ability to hear random tracks. When people queue up their tracks, lets say 6 or more 3-5 minute tracks in a row it has never bothered me, even if it is something that I don't particularly like to hear, I just go on and do other things then before you know it they have passed, I don't obsess on the fact that someone played a ton of songs in a row. I don't even mind the hour long tracks someone might queue up, as I personally have queued up wonders of life - area - music loop (1hr long) because I love the music and while I am at work, it allows me to still concentrate on my tasks at hand. I do not see the difference if I were to pick several random tracks to listen to or if the station picks the tracks. There are often times in the random queue up there will be 2 or more of the same titles just different versions of that song. So I do not see any difference if the members on here queue up tracks or the stations automatically queuing them up. I listen about 8 hrs a day while I am at work Mon-Fri and occasionally on the weekends at home, and in the time that I have been on here since I joined, it has never bothered me if someone requests their favorites. They may not be mine but someone took the time to look through the requests and queue them up because they wanted to hear the tracks that are special to them for whatever reason. Reading this specific forum it appears to me, and this is just my opinion, that you are really bothered by us requesting more than just a "few" tracks at a time, hence again today you mention "again someone queued up another batch of songs and hogged the station" not your exact words but what you meant. I am sorry that you feel like this station is being abused by we the members. Remember it is not your typical traditional radio station so with the ability to make our own requests it will not always be the perfect randomness that you want. I do honestly believe that for the size of the membership that we have everyone is pretty respectful and thoughtful to others when queuing up our requests. Occasionally it might go to the extreme, but all in all on a daily basis it does not. New members learn quickly but when they first get on here and start accumulating points they are so excited about being able to request this or that, they want to gobble them all up in one sitting. But then after they have been on here awhile it becomes more familiar and they realize they will eventually hear everything they want to throughout the course of a day. It will never be perfect and we can't always hear what we want when we want. But this station is by far the best on line for this type of genre and as close to perfect as it can be. I think if there are members who are truly abusing the system on a daily basis they should be reprimanded for it, but do not punish all of us for those small few. Should there be some type of control over the requests, probably so. But for the most part I think that each and every one of us should use our best judgment and think of everyone who is actually online and listening and be considerate of all of those involved in this station. If I personally have hogged the station by requesting a lot of small tracks in a row, then each and every one of you have my deepest apology!

WELL SAID! I have also listened to Sub probably 4-6 hours a day during the work week and a bit less during the weekend for the past couple of years and I completely think you've hit the nail on the head. Should there be more controls as the membership grows? Sure, but I personally feel that no one is abusing the system. My thought is that folks with a heck of a lot more "post credits" than I are entitled to the priviledge of listening to more of their requests - and as a byproduct, I get to be immersed in other's diversity and tastes.bostoncg wrote:Flatlandmounty it sounds like the ability for us to request tracks really bothers you more than anyone I have seen on this station in the almost 2 yrs I have been on here.
