GMR is correct. It is in the background noise as you enter the Gangster scene. A mother is criticizing her son and that is his response.

I think I do recall that conversation now. Is it from one of the apartments as you enter the scene across from Cagney? Like where the man and woman are visibly fighting?

Yes in that area. And that isn't a man and a woman fighting, its a guy being held up by another guy with a machine gun.

Interesting... If you look closely, they move from one window to another. When they move is when you can clearly see the shadow of the gun.
