So you want to build a Disney castle?

I found this presentation this afternoon:

PDF file (10MB)

It details the design and construction process for the castle at Shanghai Disney Resort.

I don't know if it's more impressive that they put that information on the internets, or that the entire presentation doesn't once use the word "Disney" :P

Also, that castle is going to be HUGE :o

(I put this here instead of the Disney Around the World forum because although it's focussed on Shanghai, it's probably more of general interest in the design/construction of Disney stuff.)

[edit: changed link to a dropbox link as the original expired]

the coolest thing I saw on there was "The DISH"

That was actually quite enjoyable...in a very nerdy way.

Edit: That did it. Thanks, this is a good read! Love to see how concept art develops into reality.

Aw, they expired the link. Here's a copy in my dropbox: PDF (10MB)

I'll update the original post too to point here.

It's crazy how many rooms and how many uses they will have for this one space.

I like that fact. Multi-purpose makes a lot of sense. I've often wondered why Cinderella's castle has (what seems like) not much going on. A restaurant, a little kid princess salon, and a single hotel suite that isn't used much. I'm sure there are changing rooms and whatnot for all the shows that take place in front of the castle, but for such an imposing structure it seems under-designed.

I know the presentation file was designed to show an example of why using BIM is a good idea (no idea what BIM is...) but I also appreciate seeing all the schematics. It's never as easy as "let's go build a castle."

I had to look it up too. Building Information Modeling.

I love the conference table picture, towards the end. Reminded me of meetings I've been to! But not Disney meetings, alas.
