Remember When?
I searched for a thread just about old videos and pics of the parks as we remember them fondly. But I didn't see one.
I'll start with one showing the beloved Birthday Cake castle. I liked this one as it shows 20,000 Leagues UTS, the skyway buckets and old signage around the parks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPxFzh4N ... ata_player
Please post old memories and help us relive the past.

How about a ride on the short lived Rocket Rods? Seems like a much longer ride than they made it seem. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4dko9C_ ... ata_player

Re: Remember When?
Excellent thread idea NaCler!
Once our Internet is working again I'll have to scan my birthday cake castle photo and share it.
I was so disappointed I never got to ride the rocket rods. I think they were pretty much shut down by the first time we went to visit DL but they were officially closed so I was hopeful. My brother was able to ride them a few times and said they were fun, but not as good as they were hyped up to be...

Re: Remember When?
I remember the Pepto-Castle. It was cool to see...but after hours in the park you really got tired of it fast.
I was looking at pictures from the 80s (my first trip as a child) before my wedding a few years ago while I was making the slideshow. My first trip was during the 15 Year Birthday of MK...then my second trip was the 25th. I really wanted to be in MK for the 40th...but sometimes life gets in the way.
DS should be 9-10 years old for the 50th Birthday of MK...maybe we can do something special then!
I'll see if I can find those old MK pictures to post here.

Hmmm, there's really not much I'm old enough to remember... but I have fond memories of Extraterrorestrial, which very well may be spelled wrong

Re: Remember When?
NaCler, what a fantastic topic!!!! I will have to try to find some good pics! Most of mine are from DL, of course...but I should have some WDW ones somewhere.
Personally, we did not see the Pepto-Castle in person, but neither one of us cared for it. Thank you for posting those fabulous videos!!! Especially Rocket Rods! We were fortunate enough to ride them several times in its short life. Yes, it was not up to the hype...but it was kinda fun sitting up front and moving up and down with the accelerations/brakes...and it came in handy on hot days. The breeze sure felt good.
With as many times as it broke down, we did not get stuck once. The closest was we got off the ride and by the time we were on the ground level the Cms were walking the track evacuating people. Oh well...I had hoped to walk the Peoplemover track though.

Re: Remember When?
Don't worry that there's not much for you to reminisce about right now...just remember what you know. Meaning, the parks change so much over the years...you will be able to look back and remember Fantasyland before they changed it all...you remember ExtraTerrorestrial and that's gone now...who knows what other changes will happen in the future?DemonOfMusic wrote:Hmmm, there's really not much I'm old enough to remember... but I have fond memories of Extraterrorestrial, which very well may be spelled wrong
Take DCA for example...we watched that park being built. Now it's completely different...and that was just 11 years ago.
It won't be long before you too will be "remembering the good ol' days"

Re: Remember When?
I remember when Philharmagic was The Lion King.
I remember the ski ride. My husband hates that that is gone now.
I never got to see 20,000 Leagues. It was gone when I made my first trip to the parks.

Yeah...sorry....I meant the skyway. I think of it as the ski ride since it is alot like the ski gondolas you ride when you are going skiing. Sorry for the confusion!

Check out the link in the first post. They have several videos from about 30 years ago.
I really like the old Epcot videos.
