Why should I take a Disney Cruise?

I am excited that they are now sailing out of New York, a mere 3 hour drive from me...hmmm could a Dis Cruise now be in our future??

Thanks everyone for your posts. I have in fact seen promotional material...I have also seen the ship in person (I live in Florida)...again if I want to get my Disney fix, then I think I would rather visit the parks. And I believe that is the type of vacation I like to do...having the luxury to come and go as a please...but I will continue to explore taking a cruise...I just don't think I am 100% convinced yet.

I REALLY wanna go on a Disney Cruise myself but my hubby isn't a fan of cruises and I don't wanna go by myself, so for right now, it is on the back burner. But at least I get to the World once a year

If you are not 100% convinced to take a cruise then I would not do it, most of all a Disney cruise which is generally more expensive than other cruise options. Of course there is a reason why a Disney cruise is more expensive than others. It is the same reason as why the Wilderness Lodge is more expensive than a Ramada Inn.
If you would spend the money while not being 100% sure that you want to do this, chances are good that you will be somewhat disappointed.
Our family is taking our 5th Disney cruise in about a month and we totally love it. I can't think of a single negative about the entire experience, but everyone has their own preferences. A vacation should be enjoyable and comfortable. If the parks are where you are most comfortable...go to the parks.

I've never been on a Disney cruise, but I'll throw my two-cents in on bashers of non-Disney cruise lines: don't. I know everyone here is obviously a little fanatical about the Mouse but I've had great experiences on both Norwegian Cruise Lines and Carnival. I would not consider either of those lines to be on par with "Ramada"... Yes, rooms can be pretty Spartan, but it is a boat afterall. You can shell out $$$ on any cruise ship nd get a pretty nice room, or "slum it" and go for the bare neccesities (bunks, bathroom, tv, door, porthole [optional] )in terms of cabin and still enjoy all the benefits of the ship. That's really a whole different issue though that I have with people staying at active destinations such as Vegas, Disney, etc. where I'm in the room only to sleep and shower basically.

I'm 27 and I love Disney World, but the idea of being stuck on a Disney themed ship 24 hours a day is a bit unpalatable for me. I know there are adult areas on the boats but for something like a cruise I'd rather have the kids cordoned off in their own little areas rather than the adults.

Cruise ships in general can be fun and can actually be rather cheap depending on the package you book and how much, if any, travel is really necessary to get to the ship. If we take one of the Bermuda boats out of Boston the cost is essentially paying for food, travel, and lodging all in one which is actually a pretty good savings. Where they get you is the extras (i.e. drinks). If you want a non-included beverage, or really anything that's not included, you're at the whim of the cruise and whatever they're offering for however much they're offering it for (that is until you hit port I suppose).

Cruises can be really fun experiences. It's neat when you go to bed and wake up and you're in a different country/on a different island than you were the day before.

Oh that reminds me (still hate cruises) but when Disney redid it's windowless cabins with the "virtual portholes" they were so popular at launch that people who booked cheap cabins were being bumped up.

It doesn't matter if its Disney or not - you got to either like the whole cruise concept of travel/vacationing or not. I don't blame Wizz for not liking cruises, and I don't think it matters to him whether or not the cruise ship belongs to Disney or not. I don't like cruises either, and I don't think it being a Disney cruise would change it for me.

Does/did disney do a cruise down to mexico? Apparently lower tourist numbers and port fees have led some liners to no longer dock here in CA.

According to their website they have a Mexican Riviera cruise that sails out of Los Angeles...

I wonder if they would continue the Mexican Riviera for the next cruise season? Aside from the port fees, there's also been some safety concerns about the crime in some parts of Mexico...

That was another reason mexican cruises have not been as popular. What I've read was that the ports here were so pricey that it was more cost effective to just to put the ships on different routes.

I know the Disney Cruise is currently up in Alaska. But will be heading back down in the fall I think...for the Mexican Riviera cruises. The one ship is doing "double duty".

My hubby and I went on a cruise for the first time in 2008. It was a non-Disney cruise and we had a total blast! We had an oceanview room which was nice, but we found ourselves out on the deck taking in the fresh ocean air or being involved in whatever events were taking place that day/evening.

We booked a Disneycruise to celebrate my MIL's 80th in Nov. 2012. We're looking forward to it, although I'll miss not being in the World. Can't do both, though, even with 2 incomes.
