Exactly. They might convince people to stay in the parks later into the evening to see if their picture made it on to the castle. And while they were in the parks longer they might be purchasing more food and souvenirs, but I doubt it would make a big impact.

I do wonder what the economics are of various additions to the parks, for the average consumer I almost want to say that new anything is never really a draw since it may only be a 4-5 minute expiereince (for a ride) or a 20 minute show. For a more hardcore fan they might draw them in though.

I think this might have to do with keeping more people in the parks for more hours. If they can continuously draw more people then the theory is that more money can be made in the parks on food, beverages, and even merchandise.

That is true, semi related question for everyone.

If/when you buy gifts/souviners on a multiday vacation, when do you buy them? All at once on a specific day or end of days, or just as you see it?

We buy 'em as we see 'em. Nice thing about staying on property is that you don't have to carry them around with you. Just have them sent to your room.

Of course this all depends on which Park and where you stay. Like Mousekedude said Staying on property in WDW is great since you can have the merch sent back to the hotel, but if you are in Disneyland you generally don't get that luxury. I believe you can get your packages taken to the Disney hotels but I know you can't for the good neighbor hotels.

As for when I buy the merchandise, I wait until the last day, that way I have time to search for other things that might suit someone better. Also if I decide to spend a little more in the parks or the surrounding areas I can budget accordingly for gifts. But to be completely honest, I don't get gifts for others when I go to parks. I never know what to get anyone and they never say "hey can you get me ___".

My thoughts exactly.
Nor would I want to see myself on the castle either.

You know, Chernabog40 and I talked about this a bit and can see both good and bad in this idea. Now, I agree with MoonPet in that I personally would not want to see myself projected up on IASW or the Castle...but I could see a 7 or 8 year old kid's face light up when all of a sudden there they are...up on the castle! A moment of "fame" for the child and a memory that will stay with them for a long time. This campaign's supposed to be all about creating memories, right? If you look at this from a child's perspective, I think it could be a neat little show. As for us "grown-ups" I could see where it's just another marketing ploy. I'm just hoping that this will not be like "Celebrate" and wear out it's welcome. :?
