Why is the Pirates ride at Disneyland so much better than the ride at Disney World?

As part of the addition of Jack Sparrow to the ride at Diseney World we seem to have lost some great moments from the ride including the pirate boat battle scene, whereas Disneyland have kept all this and still updated the ride. Also Disneyland have the great Pirates restaurant which Florida's ride lacks altogether.

I understand from a friend there were problems in Florida in that they couldn't dig down so far for the ride (due to the nature of the land) so I guess this is why there is no second drop there, but I just wonder why otherwise it seems to be on a much smaller scale overall.

What do you think?

I agree - there is no reason they couldn't have made the ride longer, even without the second drop. Also, I don't like the order of the scenes. It doesn't build up like it does in DL.

I didn't know that the scenes were different in WDW compared to DLR.

Seeing as how Magic Kingdom is 14 feet above sea level, I highly doubt that is the reason.

As for the differences, I'll reserve judgement for either until I actually get a chance to ride the DL version.

I like them both! And I haven't been on either since their last refurbishments so I don't know how well the movie tie-in is working in either one.

It's real mixed with a lot of people but I'm not bothered by it at all. While I do miss the old version, a little bit of change is nice.

I think the drops are a big part of it. Definitely missed in WDW. Probably because of that, we (my family & I) are more partial to the DL Pirates ride. But hey, it's Disney. Either way, both have their appeal.

There is at least the one drop in WDW ~ we used that to gauge if my Mom could handle Splash Mountain...she decided that PoC is exciting enough!

I honestly like the pirates in DLR better than WDW due to the better drops and the restaurant loop that you do.

It's sad that WDW lacks better drops but hey, that means DLR gets to lure those in that want it.

It's not just the drops, but there's a lot of build-up from the get-go at Disneyland. At Disneyland, you start the ride by slowly going through the Bayou 'at night' where there are shooting stars, fireflies, and the atmospheric banjo music. Then there's darkness, a warning, then a drop where you're transported into the past and then your adventure really begins.

Overall, there are more scenes, making WDW's seem more compact and rushed.

It's true, because of the water table in Florida, there could only be one drop. However, I agree that not being able to dig deep enough shouldn't have hindered the length of the ride.

If you pay attention and look at the ceiling for a certain amount of time, you can see shooting stars going by in between the water and the restaurant.
