Hmmmm....part of me likes it and then the other part of me thinks it's creepy! I think I would have to see it up close in person.

I think kids will be accepting of the new talking characters. The ones that freak out when they see them now might not be so freaked out when Mickey can talk to them - or maybe it will be even worse...cool technology though. I'm sure the characters will have to stick within accepted phrases.
Everybody is right, Len best behave himself this trip ;)

For those of you find this idea kinda creepy, you could be experiencing a mild case of automatonophobia.

Yes, it's a real world it means the fear of ventriloquist's dummies, animatronic creatures, wax statues, etc. Anything that falsely represents a sentient being. One of the principal reasons for it is the lack of real human body language and/or real human facial expressions.

Wow! That explains a lot! Thanks!

I suppose robots and faceless images/statues go in that category too...

Who knew one could find some psychotherapy on Subsonic????

It took me a while to remember it. I was flipping through TV and came across some channel and saw Disney animatronics and stopped - that was the topic. I looked up the definition off the net. There is a logical and scientific reason behind the uneasiness that robots/automatons/etc. causes.

That would be me. I'm fine with watching it going on in movies or television shows but in real life? That'd freak the heck out of me.

don't know if it's related, but the Donald in the Dreams Come True show today had blinking eyelids and the mouth moved when he talked.....looked very much like this Mickey

Because of the creepy smiling faces, making nutty decisions, and behaving silly? Heck, even clowns can be creepy too.

I saw a couple youtube videos yesterday linked from screamscape.com. I think it looks pretty awesome. It definitely makes me want to go see Mickey now, when I never would have bothered unless there was no line at all, and then only maybe. The fact that you can actually have a conversation with a character is pretty amazing, even if it creeps some people out. The kids in the videos seemed to love it. :)

I think this is amazing! I remember a trip that we took with some friends last year and their DK thought that Mr. Potato head at TSM was really cool. I can't imagine how they would react if Mickey were to verbally interact with them. I hope it is at WDW on our next trip.
