Hypothetical question time.

In the WDW forum we're discussing the upcoming refurb of Space Mountain and the accompanying (partial) closure of the TTA (aka the peoplemover). I got to thinking about it, and it occurred to me that were the peoplemover to close permanently, that might be enough for me not to want to go back to WDW again. Kind of startling to me, considering how much I love me some Disney parks. As friends and family will attest, I'm either at WDW or planning a trip; those are my only two modes.

This isn't some kind of hysterical attachment to the TTA. It would be more of a 'straw that broke the camel's back' thing. Enough has been chipped away at what I really love about WDW that - were that to go - I'd have a hard time looking forward to another trip to my 'favorite place on Earth'.

This is all hypothetical, of course, since as far as we know the TTA will reopen on schedule, and I'm not even 100% sure that'd be the last straw if it really did happen, but it got me to thinking about limits.

So, what would be enough for you to throw up your hands and say "That's it! I'm through with WDW/DL/Disney Parks!"? Is there a ticket price you won't pay? An attraction you won't visit without? Anything? Inquiring minds want to know.

If Disneyland ends up losing all the great rides, the most memorable ones, or changes something drastic about it that the people won't like then I wouldn't want to go back. Ticket prices would be another thing. I would never pay more than a hundred dollars for a single day ticket to one park. It's bad enough it's $69.

I mostly go for the experience and to have fun but I like the atmosphere. It's a getaway, a way to go to a new place I would call home and a way to enjoy myself with no problems at all. I like seeing all the familiar structures, the buildings, the familiar ways of going all around the park. I'm one to look around, soak in everything and to find new things every time I go.

What point is there to go if say Pirates of the Caribbean was removed? Or the Haunted Mansion? Or even the castle! What if a themed land had magically vanished? What if a favorite attraction suddenly closed without warning and was removed like the Peoplemover?

I know that DCA is working on an expansion, removing some rides that we have made memorable and replacing them with something exciting. I don't think they should make it more Disney, to be honest, since the park is based on California. Yes, we live in California (or those who do) and some want to get a feel of the state but they shouldn't change it. Now with the addition of Mickey's Sun Wheel, the Silly Symphony Swings and Goofy's Fly School, the theme of the whole is disappearing. If we want Disney, we'll go right to Disneyland.

I don't know, there's really a lot that would take me to not want to go. I love going to see new things, experience the same things in a new way or to basically enjoy myself. I should not be ranting at two in the morning..

I would be highly disappointed if they did away with TTA! I love the classic attractions. I even love the Swiss Family Treehouse! If Disney did away with all of the classics, I would have a hard time going back for a while. I don't know if I could throw my hands up and never go back though. Disney is my most favorite happy place! I just hope they don't do away with too many of the classic attractions, that's what Disney was started on, Walt's ideas and his passion for a place for families to vacation together.

The only things that would stop me going to WDW are:

Lack of money
No flights
or death.

Things in Disney will change and we will all moan, but the new bits will grow on us or if they don't it'll give us something to talk about in here.

Sorry Disney is my happy place and some things have changed that I miss but survive without.
WDW never ever again... I don't think so!

Yeah, I have to second that. I honestly can't think of one BIG event that would cause me to stop going to WDW.

Things have changed, and alot of them are not for the better, but it is will one of the most magical places in the entire world , and it will always have a special place in my heart.

I totally, 100% agree!!

Forgot!

One other thing about what would stop me going to WDW and that is a total closure. But if they did that I'm sure we could all get together and have a guest buy out.

They would have to close. Completely. All parks, hotels, golf, downtown. The whole thing.

There's so much to do there. I seriously think they could shut down an entire park and I would still go. It would give me a chance to do all things I say I want to do but never get to when I'm there.

after thinking about this, about the only thing that would stop me from going (aside from the obvious money issues) would be if they made a park based on Hannah Montana or the Jonas Brothers. granted, in MGM, they may have attractions here and there using these annoying little brats, but if they change the entire park to that kind of divel, then I'd not go back.

I agree so much. It's bad enough that HSM 3 is in DCA.

That pretty much sums up all my reasns to ever stop going. Besides any of those, I would go whenever I want.

I should have added a side question: What was the first year you went, and how old are you now ("ish" for people who don't want to fess up ).

Interesting stuff. So does the 'lack of money' response, which is popular, cover the 'extremely expensive tickets'? Like, if it was $150 for a one day park hopper at WDW, and you had $150, that'd be okay?

first time I went was sometime around 1982/1983. then again around 1986 or so. I don't remember a thing about either of those trips. I'm now 28.

as for the second part of that question, if the tickets were THAT expensive, I may have to rethink my trip. that is, if the economy keeps up as it has been. with the dollar as low as it is, the price of everything would seem almost too much to bear. It would probably take a full 2 years worth of salary to afford a week-long trip...
