Jamaican steals Disney name, plans theme park in Argentina?

This is interesting. Some random Jamaican chap has decided that building a theme park based on Disney's park ideas isn't enough. It seems he's decided to steal the name too. I spotted this on Screamscape:

[quote](12/21/07) Ever since Disney decided to build a theme park in Hong Kong and began talking about building another in China, we’ve heard countless reports from other various countries about how they too were making deals to build their own official Disney parks. Meanwhile a fellow down in Argentina has decided on a different plan to bring open a “Disneyâ€

I've heard some stupid stories from around the internet. But, I must say, this takes the cake thus far. This guy must seriously be off his meds to think that he could actually get away with something like this. How can anyone think "We'll call it 'Walt Disney Mundo' but have no affiliation to the actual Walt Disney Company"?

oops. I think I heard an announcement. some villiage is missing it's idiot...

*blink* Taking strange to weird new levels...

I guess maybe he figured he'd have some kind of immunity from Disney legal by not being in the United States (or a country with enough legal treaties, or whatever), but it's still pretty out there.

Wow, this guy is either gutsy or clueless. Probably both.

Happy New Year folks! If you think this is weird try looking up a site for Japanese theme parks, (I can't think of the name at the moment), and you'll notice one park that looks strangely similar to one we all know and love. Although there is absolutely no mention of the Disney name being used just the fact that they got this far probably means there is some leeway in using a concept so long as there is a buffer zone between properties. Anyway, enjoy the holiday. Peace.

That would be very strange Nara Dreamland, it closed in 2006. Do a search on it and you'll find some good photos of what would happen if Disney didn't care and let one of their parks fall apart...

Nara Dreamland is VERY strange! For those of you who've never seen pictures of it, I strongly suggest tracking some down. Theme Park Review toured it a few years ago and have some great pictures (and I think a video) on their site. It's so funny and so nightmarish at the same time!
they do have a video that you can either STREAM or DOWNLOAD. it's also part of their Volume 5 DVD
