I'll grab cups and big pieces that aren't gross. Especially if their out in the open. But most stuff is small or disgusting.

I have one friend that will pick up every piece of trash she sees in a queue to the extent it holds up the line a little
I'll pick up the big stuff too but NO WAY am I picking up chewed gum or used Kleenex . . . GROSS!

Like others have said, I only pick up litter if it's on a table I want to sit at.

How about the former cleaner-uppers. Lion? Did you wish people would pick up after each other?
Haha. Actually, I just came back from Disneyland today, and was surprised at the amount of trash I saw after a showing of Fantasmic! Full Juice cartons, napkins, boxes everywhere. It was kinda sad.

As for wanting to pick something up: I was really tempted to pick up one of those plastic soda can holders. It was just laying on the floor, staring back at me.

I hate litter, and can't believe what people leave just laying around the place. But no, I never clean anything up unless it's on my table or seat.

One story that I have heard about traditions is that everyone is considered part of custodial services, no matter the part they play on stage.
As for me, I try and pick up trash if I see and and am close so that I can pick it up.

Yeah. They tell you to do the "Disney scoop".

Having been a Disney Cast memebr it amazes me how many people leave trash for the CMs to pick up in the first place. If people really knew how much teh CMs made they might be more mindful. Since I am "Disney Trained" whenever I am in the parks I will pick up trash. It is interesting how mny people have responded that it is "disgusting" to pick up the trash but have no problem at all lettinig the CM do it. To be a CM is definately a labor of love when you have people who share that attitude...

I pick up trash all the time at the parks and here in my city. People look at me like I'm nuts or something. I like making them feel like a tool though, especially in the Parks. I found that if you pick up something and walk to a trashcan to throw it away other people will look at the original people like THEY are nuts or lazy. I love doing that to people, because maybe they will realize how easy it is to get up toss something and will do it in future.

Went on the Keys to the Kingdom tour in April and got to see the disposal system for the MK. After seeing what the sanitation CM's have to do, I have an all new respect for them. Did you know that every single piece of garbage is HAND sorted?

Seriously? Why?

And I always wanted to do that tour - was it worth the $$$?

I won't go out of my way to pick up litter, but like others have said we'll clean off a table if someone else has left their trash.
I do this, especially, if the place is crowded and there are no other tables. But, having worked at the Disney Store, I do find myself straightening shelves, and re-folding T-Shirts the correct way. I guess you can leave the Disney Store, but the Disney Store never leaves you. :mickey:

Do you pick up litter when you see it: Actually, YES, I do, then immediately wash my hands. And I blame training in the College Program for this. When my sisters came down and we played in the parks, I couldn't help but pick up litter on the ground. My sister would tell me "San, you are NOT WORKING right now!" It's a habit that so hard to break, even now.

Returning wayward merchandise to its proper place in the shops: No, because I really don't know where things go in stores, so I leave it be.

If I recall the tour correctly (and I may not as it's been a few years since I went on it), it's for recycling/reclamation purposes. I think our guide explained it as part of the 'courtesy' aspect of their policies for guests - so you don't have to put your own bottles in the recycling bin, trash in the trash bin, and so on. I assume it also helps them recycle more than they would otherwise because not everyone would bother to do it, or people'd put things in the wrong bin by accident, etc.

And definitely go on the tour! You'll probably already know a lot of what you're told if you're a real Disney junkie (being on this site indicates you probably are, lol), but it's still lots of fun, and really cool to see behind the scenes stuff.

I don't pick up the litter of others, but I do make sure mine gets in the right spot. I remember the 2nd time I was ever at Disney (1991 on my honeymoon) how absolutely clean the place was. I wouldn't even throw a ciggie butt on the ground. Of course, now that I'm older I don't do that anywhere, but back then I wasn't such a wonderful person like I am now (/me ducking and running). But I do remember that the place was so very clean that it would have been like throwing trash down in the middle of my living room.

I was talking to a cast member the other day and we were talking about how people got the opportunity to stay in the Cinderella suite. They relayed how people were chosen randomly in the parks. One of the guest was rewarded after the cast member with the key saw some one pick up some trash that another guest had thrown down on the ground.

Make me want to pickupthat odd piece of trash. :mickey:

Definately thought the Keys to the Kindgom tour was worth it. Alot of walking.
As far as the hand sorting thing goes, it was defintely for recycling and reclamation. They have this giant incincerator that burns everything that is combustible which saves money. It was also interesting to hear all the items that they FIND during this sorting process. Engaement rings? (Cant imagine taking my ring off my finger and putting it anywhere at Disney that I would throw it away.) Keys, credit cards, etc.
