Tomorrowland, er um Pixarland

Post by rdeacon » May Tue 29, 2007 8:34 pm

This topic has gotten a lot of talk in other posts, so I thought I would give it its own post.

There seems to have been a dismissal of the Tomorrowland theme. In comes the Pixar characters where anything "alien", is now futuristic. Think the imagineers have blurred this line even more with Monsters Laugh Floor. Maybe anything no human is futuristic?

This has also been discussed at various other sites

Well I've always loved the idea of the last rethemeing, the tomorrow that never was. They could do so much with it. Even putting a Meet the Robinsons could be good. I have no idea why they didn't go with that.

I think Pixar, being the success of Disney is getting overdone everywhere, not just Tomorrowland, but yes, tomorrowland is suffering significantly. The Laugh Floor, Buzz Light Year, Stitch....

I can hardly wait to see what they do to the Carousel of Progress.... Maybe they can theme in either Woody or the Incredibles.

I think Meet the Robinsons has a great home in Tomorrowland... only if they can remove something else Pixar first!!

my vote would be for the Monsters Inc laugh floor, or stitch. I like BLSRS too much to take that out.

They can't take out MILF (still can't believe they call it that) stitch I would be okay with. I agree leave Buzz alone.

I think Laugh Floor is the attraction that doesn't fit the theming. Stitch works because it's space. Same with Buzz.

As for Disneyland, the themin is getting more and more off. Subs barely work and same with Autopia. Plus they have a train station.

Oh yeah, the subs! More Pixar. Ha. Well, the theming is a bit off, true.

Of course, what did the subs and Autopia ever have to do with Tomorrowland? I may have just missed something here, but they didn't seem extra futuristic to me.

Anyhow, I'm agreeing with a lot of people here. Buzz fits with the future that never was space theme and I suppose Stitch does a bit (though I don't love the ride). The Laugh Floor pushes things too far and I would love to see the return of Timekeeper.
Drop another coin in slot and I will tell you more.

You all know how I feel about this. I think Tomorrowland has totally lost it's way, it's most apparent in WDW's. Cartoons are fantasy! Let's keep them there.

I haven't been to the parks since the "future that never was" was unrolled so I can't say boo (haha, no pun intended) about all the Pixar-a-lating that seems to be going on then. I didn't like "Lilo and Stitch" to begin with so seeing Alien Encounter with HIM in there anyway... ugh!

It makes sense from a financial point of view to go the Pixar route if that's what they're doing. After all, little kiddies DO adore those characters even if we adults aren't so hot for them. And its the little kiddies who talk their parents into buying tie-in merchandise...

When the subs and Autopia were built they were futuristic, although still close to the present. The way they were presented was not too common at the time. Now they seem rather outdated, but they weren't at the time. Remember, Walt had the 8th largest submarine fleet in the world!

It has to be the hardest theme for the Disney people. How do you remain current when you have to spend huge $ on rides that become outdated within months. Think of the Rods... Maybe they should change the theme from Tomorrowland to Animationland.

I don't think so... Animationland sounds kind of like Fantasyland. They just need to update a bit, that's all.

I think they can keep Tomorrowland relevant with Tomorrowland theming. An attraction has an approximate lifespan of 10-15 years without major overhaul and Refurb. That should allow for appropriate change over of Tomorrowland attractions or updating as needed.

For example, Space Mountain just needs updating, Buzz Lightyear is good into the future, etc. Anything space related has staying power because we're not close to space travel as a normal life activity.

Its not Pixar that bothers me, its Monsters Inc. is in the wrong place, its Carousel of Progress doesn't get the love it deserves (thought I could be convinced that maintaining this original attraction is appropriate), Stitch was just a bad replacement for Alien Encounter.

They could easily theme appropriately with or without Pixar. Meet the Robinson's seems like an easy way to go for a new attraction. Though, I could be convinced they belong in Animal Kingdom in Dinoland (I have a big head and little arms... I love T-Rex).
