The Matterhorm vs Expedition Everest

Post by soccermouse » Nov Thu 16, 2006 12:19 pm

Having never been to WDW, Expedition Everest seems to me to be WDW's answer to the Matterhorn. If you have been on both, how would you compare the two?

Everest=smooth fun ride
Matterhorn=body jerking fun ride

Everest is like a bigger, better snowy version of Thunder Mountain. With Yeti.

Everest is hands down the best ride at Animal Kingdom. Second best ride at WDW. I love it, and it's a must-ride every time I visit.
WDW History: I've always stayed offsite (my own house), because I've always lived in Orlando. But since I've become a Cast Member, I've thought about staying onsite.

The first is tough for me...

But to add to what soccermouse said, it seems that WDW is only trying to bring a NEW rennovated Matterhorn to WDW. After all, nothing will ever beat the original first steel roller coaster ever :D

I like the Matterhorn. It's tame. Everest scared the crap outta me. Everest really doesn't seem anything like the Matterhorn at all, aside from the yeti.

I understand the Everest and Matterhorn comparisons, but they all died in my mind after I road Everest.

And nothing against the Matterhorn, but I much prefer Everest. If I do the Matterhorn once on a trip I'm more than happy. Everest I can do a couple times a day. 15 times in one day, but that was cast preview.

I think most people compare the two on the grounds that they both have snow and a hidden furry monster.

I always worked during the cast previews, and only got to make it on the day they were giving away those dashboard things. I had to rush to DAK, but it was worth it.

I still Like the Matterhorn better than Everst. It's like an orginal.
Love Tomorrowland and Adventureland, but hard to decide to which one is best.

The only major thing I have against Everest is the fact that the back of the mountain just looks like the back half of a building. It is flat and is just painted the same color as the rest of the mountain. It is another example of the Imagineers either not doing their job right or, most likely not getting enough funding/time for the project. To me it will always be unfinished.

Can a regular guest see this unfinished side of Everest (ie. no need to go "backstage")? If so, where? As lame as it sounds, I'd be interested in seeing this the next time we're there.
you can actually see it on the ride in (on the bus, or in your car)

It really isn't much to look at it is just a flat wall painted to look like rock. Like JS said you can see it from the road as you are driving in. It really ticks me off too thinking about it now that they didn't finish it so you can't see that from the road or even the Parking lot.

Hmmmmm, actually I didn't see the "Flat Wall" of it. heheh Maybe I wan't paying attention to it on the way in.

I've never ridden the Matterhorn, but I tell you, Everest is a KICK BUTT ride!. The Yeti is pretty amazing too. It's made Animal Kingdom better. Woohoo! It's like good chocolate... Ultra Smooth, dark, with a bit of a kick!

We'll have to check that out the next time we're there. I'm curious to see how obvious it is, knowing now that it's there.

As for the rides... The Matterhorn is great for being a classic and well-themed ride. But, I prefer Expedition Everest for it's smoothness over the Matterhorn. The theming, for the most part, is decent. I just don't care for the "open field" part when you first leave the station until you start up the hill.
Yeah. I'll have to check out the fake mountain backside the next time I'm there.

As for which ride is better, I don't know. Matterhorn can get pretty intense, but it's really jerky. But Everest has that whole "backwards in the dark!"

If one of the 2 of you could take a picture of it and post it it would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise I will have to go down there again just for the picture. It is only 17 hours of straight driving. :D
