What about Disney Stores? We have 2 near us so it's not out of the way.

I think I would like to have some before entering the parks. Especially for my kids. I would like to think they would enjoy trading a pin or two a day.
If there's a starter pack available on eBay, you should start out with that unless you want to buy in bulk. I don't think Disney Stores sell them, though.

Is there something I'm looking for in a starter pack? Or is it just a collection of various pins from the years?

I'm not sure if you are looking for bulk pins or what but on our last trip to Disneyland we let our kids pick a lanyard starter pack at the park. The ones we bought came with the lanyard and 4 pins two of which are duplicates so that they have two to trade right away. They have many different themed lanyard starters so the kids can pick their favorite. My son picked a pirate theme while my daughter picked tinkerbell. If you can find a place to buy extras to trade I'd go for it. In fact if you do let us know where to get them as I'd love to have a bunch for the kids to trade when we go again.

Some starter packs vary depending on the kind you get. They give you four pins, two of the same for each or a different pin each. The ones with two of the same each would help you out more since you could trade it off to cast members or you could keep them until you find a pin you like.

There are actually starter packs at the parks.. those would be a good way to go as well.. You do have to be careful when it comes to Ebay to make sure the pins are real Disney pins and not forgeries.

I love the Disney pins. I have never traded but want to this next trip. I bought a lot of 10 pins on ebay from a seller with 100% feedback and it was under $20 with shipping, I thought that was a decent deal. I am happy with it.

I make it a practice to get one pin each trip and I always have a few extra to keep for trading in case I see a pin I really really like! I also like to collect a pin for each holiday. So in May I hope to get some pins for the Summer Holidays!!!!

I couldn't tell you how many I have, but I have a backpack full of them and a DMC case full of them. My rarest pin is a prototype Minnie Mouse Photo Booth pin. Only four were made as proofs for the regular production of the pin. I also have some Dixie Landing pins that are not so rare, but they are nostolgic to me and I would not trade them.

Ok all you pin traders. I have a question about a pin my brother received in one of those ebay packs. It's Princess Tiana wearing the dress seen in the parks. Only the dress is blue, not green. All the markings indicate that it's official. Did he get a mistake? Your thoughts?
Drop another coin in slot and I will tell you more.

Look on the back of the pin. Do you see the official Disney Pin Trading logo? If not, it's a fake.

EDIT: Here is what to look for: http://i1.ebayimg.com/06/i/001/1f/f4/642d_1_b.JPG

Check the photo that MadEye posted and if it looks legit then it's real.

Thanks for the pic, MadEye. This sure looks legit to me. I wonder if she's worth anything more in the blue dress...though she still looks fabulous!

Dd loves to pin trade, she has a set of Muppet's from Disney shopping that Tinkerbell left her one trip that she says are priceless! We usually stock up on the Disney shopping sales for cheap pins to trade.

If you can, take a pic of the back of the pin and post it. I have spotted many fake pins with a fake "official" Disney pin logo. It will help to tell if it is worth anything or not.

Just as long as they are not too cheap. Sometimes CM's don't have a way of trading out the "junk" pins for other guests to have a chance to get a good pin. Then again: "One mans trash..."
