While I don't collect the pins, I understand the obsessive behavior of collecting in general. Whether it was comic books or trading cards, I've gone through several phases collecting. It is addictive, but it's also a ton of fun while you're doing it.

While there can be quite an expense involved in collecting, it's mitigated by the fact that you can liquidate.

I would suggest avoiding negative feelings for collectors or feeling sorry for them because they are having fun their own way. To each their own. 8)

That's so true. If it weren't fun, I wouldn't do it. It's exciting to find a new pin that would work for one of my collections. And while I do have a book to keep them safe while traveling, I don't display that, I wear them because it's fun.

I think it's actually kind of funny when I see some heavy collector go up to a cast member and pass over really awesome pins just because they aren't "Cast Lanyard" pins. Then they get all huffy because they couldn't find what they wanted.

I know it's supposed to be in good fun and all, but I do wonder about the children sometimes. A few times I've seen a child almost go through with a trade for a pin he/she likes, only to stop because the parent said it wasn't worth it.

I almost regret not pin trading as a CM. There was this pin I really really wanted. It was taken away just like that in front of my eyes :(

I never have grasped the concept of pin collecting... even though I collect other things like comics and other Disney stuff... I'm a movie collector myself but anyways I just havent grasped it because the last time I was at Disney and was looking at the pin collection area I asked myself do I really want to spend money on something I might not get into... I decided to buy a Mad Hatter hat instead. I wear it a lot now :hatter_bounce: Maybe I should do the pin thing though what do you guys think yes or no?

It's up to you. From what I hear it can get pretty addicting. There are special events just dedicated to pin trading. You can start out with some cheap ones you don't like, and then just trade from there. CMs can't say no unless it's a fake or they have it already.

I have pictures from my recent trip of crazy pin traders at the pin station in DTD in the Marketplace. As soon as I download them from my brothers laptop and then upload them to my host I will show you how crazy they can get.

Speaking of pins I just got a few more this trip. I had to, what I'm doing is collecting one for each of the resorts I have stayed at. This time it was Pop Century, last time it was Coranado Springs, etc. In December I will get a Ft. Wilderness pin, I figure why get it now and spend more on this trip when I can save it for later. I also picked up one for each night of the MNSSHP. Because they were cool ones, they have stitch for the 31st, thank God I didn't get that one I would have yelled.

I finally got some of my OCT pics uploaded to my photobucket account. Here are two pics of some of the crazy pin traders I saw outside of the pin stop in Marketplace on the first day down there.

Well Of course the time the pictures were taken was at dinner time. I'm just amazed how many pins are actually in there. The guy in the bottom picture has three other suitcases full. The other guy in the top picture only has 1 bag on the ground. :o

I do have to admit I did add about 9 new ones this past trip and I may be adding more while we are down there. I will explain my reasons then.

9 new Pins, what is there like a unspoken one pin per park rule, or can you just get as many as you can afford? for a true collector? lol

I got four pins, one for each night of the MNSSHP, and one for each of the resorts that I have ever stayed at. I am going to re post pictures of my pin collection in the previous thread the one back on page. I got the ones for the resorts just because I thought it would be cool to have them. I got Pop Century because I was just down there, Coronado Springs, Ft. Wilderness, and Caribbean Beach.

I love bringing back old threads to life. But anyway, I want to share my little newfound obsession but it's cooled down now. I have twelve (thirteen since one is not going on my lapel) pins in total and I did trade one my family friend gave me until I got the exact one I wanted. Now I won't want to give those away. I'm not much of a collector like I used to be but it is a lot of fun. If I ever decide on getting more, I'll just use my extra lapel and trade with that one while the other one that holds my AP is used for my private collection.

I only have one pin but it's pretty sweet. It's Donald Duck for the Fourth of July 2006. It's like a star with him saluting and holding a flag. I was told it was only on sale that day (July 4th) and that was it.

I have a few pins that I love and cherish, some very old! I don't understand the whole pin trading thing?! Why would you trade a pin if you like it? And what if someone wants a pin that you don't want to trade?!?!?! I just have a few I really like and I wouldn't want to get rid of them.

My latest fav. is the one we got from our Segway Tour, the little guy on the Segway actually moves forward and back!!! :D
