I dont see a problem with the fingerprinting. My understanding of it is that they use it to make sure no one else tries to use your ticket. Like if all the sudden a 6'5' man shows up with your ticket and tries to use it they will know something is up. I think it is not only a safety issue, but also a conterfit issue.
So we all just have to suck it up and deal otherwise we should just stay home. Remember you are on vacation and vacations are supposed to be fun, so sweat the small things in life, just live it.

It's BioMetrics...Its the next phase in technology based evolution. What's the difference in the government asking for a subpoena regarding credit card records? You entered the park without your fingerprint, then you bought something. or you entered the park with your fingerprint, then bought something. What's the difference?
Hey, if the government wants to look at the fingerprints of every individual that enters the Magic Kingdom to catch criminals, I would be ecstatic. I might say, "hey government, if you want to get involved, then pay Disney so our tickets are discounted"
Quite frankly if I was buying liquor at the corner market, or some adult material, yeah I could see why privacy might be an issue. But if you are going into the Magic Kingdom...what are you trying to hide? They Know my buying habits from credit cards, they know how often I come and go based on my ticket, they know what I like to eat, heck they even know my food allergies. I'm not exactly worried about my fingerprint scan.
Now, If there is a huge scandal where Disney executives are committing felonies and suddenly my fingerprint is brought into question because they "stole my identity" I would be pretty angry. But seriously?

Conspiracy Theory Time!
but lets make this one positive!
Disney is actually taking biometrics on all park guests for our comfort and safety! with this reading they will be able to get a read on blood pressure, cholestoral, weight (although they never tell womens weights to anyone!) and vital statistics such as heart rate, brain activity etc. this allows the computers to adjust air conditioning, future menu's (for our health of course) rotation of dumbo's flying elephants, queue music, light intensity levels, and amount of fireworks to be shot off.
example: when there are teen events going on, they use music that soothes them to relax them, they add extra ritilin to the food to calm them down, and when there are excessive elderly in the park they slow down space mountain...or claim it is having technical difficulties, turn up the lights in Haunted mansion, etc.
isn't Disney Awesome!
or....perhaps we can just add a negative twist.
perhaps they can put monitors in our shoes next and give us rfid bracelets for our safety and enjoyment!
insert the "come back" from the haunted mansion ride here laugh!

It would seem to be that there'd be "some other way" (don't ask me what) to try to curtail fraud. This weirds me out, though I'm not sure why. I guess I don't like the idea of how it could be cross-referenced to other databases that would have fingerprint records?

I don't really know how I feel about it. So many things have changed, technologically speaking. I was a little leery when they first came out with the machines that you would have to sign at the cash register rather than sign the receipt. I felt like everyone had my signature then and that bothered me. But now I have gotten used to it and it doesn't bother me quite as much anymore. I guess it will be the same here.

Hmm... I don't see the big issue.
Just seems that if someone wants your information its pretty easy to dig it up. There are entire companies set up just to sell your information to other companies for marketing purposes. Think its more of an issue to give your name and address out then Disney's fingerprint scan.
Just thinking that Disney would not use the scanned info in a negative way. The publicity would really be bad, and not worth the risk.

How many of us have credit cards? we give out our personal information in order to obtain the use of cash .... do we really know these company's? I think disney is just being Capitalistic, making sure they can protect their assets and gleen every dollar they can.rdeacon wrote:Hmm... I don't see the big issue.

we had something like that where I used to work, scanned the size/shape of your hand so noone else could punch you in or out. The ones at WDW used to do this as well, but the turnstiles are now taking fingerprints

Man, it was so hard explain the finger scan to guests. I hated when they asked about it!! I tried to make up a spiel that I could use for everyone, sometimes it worked, sometimes not.
I like the fact that Disney tries to help me protect my ticket. There's too many instances where people try to scam cast members into letting them in, especially when the big groups like the cheerleaders and Brazilian tour groups come to the parks. If Disney is in fact taking fingerprints, which they really aren't, they are breaking the law and will be held accountable eventually.

I hate this process. I don't care about the printing, its the confusion, chaos and lack of understanding it causes at the turnstiles. It makes getting into the park take forever.
I wish we could find a more streamlined approach to park entry.
