That's sort of true. We travel with a diaper back for our DD and they don't dig through it very heavily. We could have had just about anything under the diapers and we certainly didn't hide food that could be for either party (ie crackers and things adults eat, too).

They're not to strict on this, at least for those with children in tow.

Actually, you can bring in any food and drink you want, as long as you don't bring food which you need to prepare in the park.
For example, you could bring 20 sandwiches, 30 bags of chips, 30 cans of soda and some candy bars or whatever for dessert. But you couldn't bring a loaf of bread, lunch meat, lettuce, mayonaise and mustard to make 3 sandwiches. The logic behind this is that in order to prepare the food, you would be taking up space that could be used by other guests. The same logic is why you can't bring in rolling coolers (but you can bring hand held ones). The only other food/drink that you're not allowed to bring in is glass bottles, but that is mostly because they could break.
A lot of the tour groups come in with one person carrying three bags worth of food for the whole group for lunch. You'd be surprised by how many families bring food, I'd guess about 1/20 families, which is a fairly large number when there are Monte Cristos and Disneyland fudge waiting for you inside :D
So in closing, everyone bring food into the parks, you don't have to purchase any inside if you don't want to!!

AAA? "Getting off one's soap-box" IS an English term which came from the political speakers that used to stand in Hyde Park. Maybe you are not old enough to remember!

I will try this next time I go to the Parks. I guess the reasons I thought this is because I have been told that I can't bring certain things into the Park ( this is Disneyland), I also here the announcement in the arrival area that "if you have brought food to the Disneyland resort please use the pick-nick area located to the left of guest services." I will definitely try this next time, because I can't find some things that I would like to have in the Parks (like Pepsi).

Yeah, this is definitely something that is not common knowledge and without a doubt is something that Disney does not broadcast at all. The blurb about the pick-nick area has been broadcast for as long as I can remember too, and that goes to show that they'll even put out potential mis-information about bringing food into the parks. It is something that I think most people assume about the park, so Disney doesn't try to tell everyone otherwise. Good luck with your Pepsi (that's a great idea, now I want to try and bring some RC Cola next time)!

Nothing beats carrying a Dr. Pepper around and when people ask where you got it, you tell them its in Frontierland on Tom Sawyers Island...in Fort Langhorn, look for the Mess Hall...they have a Vending Machine there!

Because it caught a woman with a GUN going into the parks you don't think that it's a good idea just because it doesn't catch EVERY single person that has some kind of contraband??

The system caught a woman with a GUN man...**A GUN**

I understand that she was caught with the gun, but what I'm saying is that someone could still walk in with a gun under your clothes. Yeah the bag check may net you a few breaks but what about the people that have concealed weapons on there person? They don't pat you down so they won't find them.

So then what is your answer to this problem?
Since it seems you don't actually care that they stopped somebody with a gun from going in the parks..

I think the point is that anyone with the actual intent to sneak a gun into the park is going to succeed, and they're the ones the security check was set up to stop. Anyone who is the sort of person who would accidentally bring a gun to a Disney park probably also bathes with the thing, and is so comfortable with and used to their weapon that they're unlikely to be any sort of threat...otherwise you'd have already seen them on the local news when someone got their order wrong at the drive-thru.

If this event makes people feel safer, then I guess it's ultimately a good thing for everyone involved, but it's no proof that the security line has practical value.

And you honestly think she *FORGOT* about the gun in her purse??
and the knife...and the scissors...and the...
cmon man...
you give the crazies of the world too much credit in that they all stop to consider how they are going to get the gun in etc..

By your theory then why bother with security at all?? Lets just stop doing it at the airport too because really if somebody wants to get a gun in they will find a way around security...bribe a luggage guy etc

Or..is your point that Disney doesn't do enough and that you would like to see them put in metal detectors etc??
