May I ask where Mouseoholic looks to determine which parks are open late? Is it on the Disney site somewhere? After reading all the trip reports and pre-trip reports y'all have me a little paranoid that I might need to prepare better than I usually do...which consists of picking up the park maps upon checking into the hotel

There is a "park hours" calendar on the wdw website and when you view individual park schedules there are links to the extra magic hours schedule. I am not sure how far in advance they publish EMH, but it is at least a couple of months out.

A word of advice though: check frequently because Disney is notorious for "tweaking" their schedule. Usually this is for the better, as in later closing times due to extra demand, but it is worth keeping in top of.
No one's gloomy or complaining while the flatware's entertaining.

Thanks horizons1! I was being admittedly lazy since I did find this information yesterday on the website as soon as I looked, and you can choose the month you want to look at. It is good to know about them changing the schedule though.

Exactly right, thanks for posting that. Mouseoholic also has an iphone app that she uses which gives up-to-date info on park hours (she says she doesn't know what it's called... she just has it). Also she uses WDWmagic.com for information, and TourGuideMike.com, which is a paid membership site that is incredibly thorough and accurate. She has other sources too, but if I tell you what they are then I'll have to kill you. 8-)

Great shots, Dr. Ravenscroft! And thank you so much for posting the settings! May I ask what body and lens combo you're using for those shots? We just went through our latest camera upgrade: to a Nikon D3100 D-SLR with three different lenses(all Nikkor, of course): the AF-S VR 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G that came with the kit, an AF-S DX VR 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED, and an AF-S DX 35mm f/1.8G which I got specifically for the low f-stop capability for taking low-light shots. We spent all day in a park the day after we picked it up, just experimenting. We're still learning the ropes, so your posting of the settings is very helpful.
The strangest thing, though, is that the pics look absolutely gorgeous on the big screen HD TV when we patch the camera directly to it: crisp, clear, beautiful color... but when we download the pics from the memory card to computer, they don't look nearly as good: a little fuzzy, colors not as bright.... Mouseoholic says it may be because the pics are in HD, and our computer does not display in HD. But when I see your pics, they look perfect. What could the problem be?
