It's hard to pick one because they're both great. When you go on one of those rides, the music sticks in your head until you go on the other ride, then the music for that ride sticks in your head.

I voted for Pirates, but again, they're both great. I think Pirates is a longer ride and a little more relaxing.

Here's what I can base my vote on. Last several trips to each park are:

Disneyland Fall 2006
WDW June 2006
WDW Sept 2001
Disneyland Summer 1981-ish and every summer before that.

In the DL 2006 trip Pirates was finished with the Capt Jack upgrade. I really enjoyed that. Still got butterflies during the drops. HM was closed for the holiday update, so I didn't get to ride.

In the WDW 2006 trip, Pirates was down for the Capt Jack upgrade and HM was fair to poor.

In our 2001 trip, I remember thinking Pirates was a big let down. Kinda like when we got to the Magic Kingdom and I'm like, What?, where's the Matterhorn? The HM was okay a far as I remember.

A few things I remember about the '81 version of the HM (and being 10) was once you entered the building and suddenly in was night outside with thunderstorms. I remember it giving me that weirded out feeling you get when go into a movie theater during the day, and when you leave it's dark. And the faces on the walls that follow you when you walk. That was always kind of creepy to me. The few memories of Pirates I have involve wondering if the fire was real, as well as some of the pirates(much like Capt Jack poking his head out of the barrel in the current version--I had to really look hard at that one). The drops always get me--which I like.

So, after all that, I vote for Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean.

I voted HM. While I love Pirates, I enjoy HM more. Besides, it's easier to snuggle with your sweetie on HM than Pirates.

Pirates...no good reasons...just grew up riding Pirates and HM always seemed to be under refurb whenever I was visiting.

i prefer PotC a lot more than HM. people are always shocked when i tell them that i think HM is just a bit too morbid...not the ghosts, per se, but the coffins and hearse and death certificate talk...just not for me.

and this is coming from a "gothy" type of person...people are always shocked when i tell them this lol...

Gosh, this is a hard one. Almost a tie. But the win goes to Haunted Mansion because not only is there HM, but there is Haunted Mansion Holiday as well, which is one of my absolute favorite things ever at Disneyland.

sarita, argh you're so lucky! the nightmare before Christmas is one of my obsessions...and i've yet to see the haunted mansion holiday...

i did see a video of it on youtube, though! it was pretty hard to see a lot of the details, though : /

i really, really wish WDW would do this. we go for the Christmas season and i'd be so psyched if they'd "nightmare" the HM up.

I figured that they would have done this after the last rehab they did. But I guess they didn't have the time, money, or even the guts to do it. I am kind of glad that they don't though just because I like the two USA parks to be different, gives me something to look forward to.

i'm so mad they don't do it at wdw....i don't see any good excuse, at the money they're pulling in.

True, for the almost 3 months they have the overlay up it is drawing LOOOOOOOOOONG lines. I think the average wait while I was there this past Dec was around 30 minutes.......that is just a average of the times as I walked past, not to be confused with actual averages. Of course I'm not sure whether these long lines are because OF the holiday season or the overlay that may be debatable.

Both are great, but PotC got it for the treacherous waters ahead! :D

I remember when the put the Fastpass distribution in on HM (2001?), and I couldn't imagine why one of the highest capacity attractions in the park needed Fastpass. And then they started with HM Holiday, and all was revealed.

Though, when I was at the park last November, the line was (and I think they did this on purpose) listed as "13 Minutes," so the wait isn't always terrible. Still, Saturdays during December? Ouch.

I've always loved both, but HM is a little ahead in my book.
