Re: Pirates Disneyland v's Disney World
I love the atmosphere of DLR's POTC. When I first went on WDW's version, I was shocked! I had no clue that the 2 were different and that WDW did not have a restaurant!
As far as the addition of the movie characters go, I really miss hearing the voice of Sterling Holloway in that long, dark tunnel right before the pirate ship scene ("Perhaps he knows too much...") where Davy Jones shows up, and I miss the voice of the original pirate captain rather than Barbossa. But otherwise the changes don't bother me too much...as long as they don't make any more for a while.

So...it would be a bad thing to have Nemo and his friends swimming alongside the boat? Or how about Prince Eric and Ariel in the big pirate ship with the frogs singing "Kiss the Girl"?!MmeLeota wrote:I love the atmosphere of DLR's POTC. Re: Pirates Disneyland v's Disney World
I love Walt Disney World. I have been there at least two dozen times. We have just returned from our first trip to Disneyland, (My daughter and my first trip, my wife's second. But her first was when Haunted Mansion had just opened).
Disneyland is soooo much better. If I can aford the flight, I intend to go back for the opening of Cars Land. The Pirates ride has alot more dead pirates and their gold. More dips and turns. More everything. The "Blue Bayou" resturant, that the ride floats thru, has TERRIBLE jambalaya! Tasted like liquid taco. I made them take it back.

ericpabear - I think the problem was you ordered the wrong thing. The ONLY thing I have heard about from the Blue Bayou is the Monte Cristo sandwich. Apparently that's the the thing to order there.

I think they learned their lesson after the WDW version, all the other parks have a resturant right at the start of the ride (another BB in Tokyo and some Carribean style place that looked good but I wasn't in the mood for it in Paris)

Oh that's interesting. I didn't know the offshore parks have restaurants inside too. Fun!Wizzard419 wrote:I think they learned their lesson after the WDW version, all the other parks have a resturant right at the start of the ride (another BB in Tokyo and some Carribean style place that looked good but I wasn't in the mood for it in Paris)

If they wanted to...they could put a restaurant at the beginning of the WDW one...because the beginning of the queue takes up an insane amount of area...but it would probably require the ride being down 18-24 months...or more.

I'm totally blanking on the ride right now, what scenes are there between the launch and the start of the ride (drops, caves, or whatnot)

I have never been to the Disneyland Pirates and I am sure the Restaurant really adds something but for some reason I love the long drawn out queue in WDW! Walking through those long dark hallways really gets you in the mood for Pirates!theBIGyowski wrote:If they wanted to...they could put a restaurant at the beginning of the WDW one...because the beginning of the queue takes up an insane amount of area...but it would probably require the ride being down 18-24 months...or more.

Imagine if the queue was part of the ride...because that is how it is at Disneyland. I would gladly trade the theming in the queue to have even more setup and theming in the first part of the ride itself.jlpeaches255 wrote:I have never been to the Disneyland Pirates and I am sure the Restaurant really adds something but for some reason I love the long drawn out queue in WDW! It is pretty cool drifting slowly through the twilight with the fireflies buzzing abouttheBIGyowski wrote:...Imagine if the queue was part of the ride...because that is how it is at Disneyland. Both Disneyland and Disneyland Paris have the restaurant, but not WDW. I NEVER understood why they didn't do that!MmeLeota wrote:I love the atmosphere of DLR's POTC. As for the original voice of the captain of the Wicked Wench, I believe it is Paul Frees (can anyone confirm?), the same voice actor that did HM's Ghost Host, Fruit Loop's Toucan Sam, and Boris Badenov in the Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons. Even after he was replaced by Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa, they did use that audio in the fireworks show for the 50th Anniversary.

Re: Pirates Disneyland v's Disney World
I know Paul Frees is the Auctioneer but I'm not sure about the Captain. As for the Restaurant being in California and Paris and not WDW that is due to the Budget and time. The Imagineers that were working on WDW decided late in the game to build POTC and to get it done in time for park opening they had to cut several scenes such as the treasure room and the restaurant. Many of the Imagineers didn't like doing it but with the lack of time they had no choice.

Re: Pirates Disneyland v's Disney World
That's good info, Dr. R. It makes sense too, because I can't think of any other reason for not doing it the same way as DLR.
I think they could still do the restaurant, though, without shutting down the ride completely. They could actually incorporate part of the queue into it as well if they really wanted to. I wonder if they've considered going back and reworking it...?
