For me if Disney loses what makes it Disney...the great service, the classic rides, if I went some day I looked around and said to myself "What is this place?" at that point I would have to stop going because I wouldn't want to taint my memories of the gloriousness that was Disney. I don't forsee that happening but if it did that is what would cause me to stop going.

For me, the question is only partly hypothetical.
I've been on WDW grounds a few times in the past few years, but I haven't spent a day at a park in about 10 years. When I found myself more irritated and sad with every new change, I thought it would be better to keep my fond memories of the parks, instead of associating them with new memories that made me want to punch Eisner in the groin.
I don't go on vacation to pour sadness into my soul, but I can take a few days of walking, discovery, and nostalgia, so, mostly when I've been in Orlando for other reasons, I've gone to see the new hotels, walk the grounds, ride the monorail...and try to avoid Downtown Disney and not think about what's going on inside the parks.
I like institutional spaces, so it's still fun to walk around the nicely-landscaped paths and basically see how things are designed to deal with WDW guests (which basically means assuming 100 gorillas armed with sledgehammers will be wandering through any given space each day). That stuff all still looks nice.
And while they're doing their best to ruin the Contemporary and haven't been showing the Polynesian the love it deserves, it's still great to be able to walk around those and draw up some fond memories.
In terms of the parks, however, I just can't put myself through that. The breaking point was when they closed Mr. Toad, Horizons, and the original Figment ride all within short order. I dropped the parks at that point, and have been watching ever since to see if anything cool enough to draw me back in would be built.
I'd like to see One Man's Dream in the Studios, but other than that, nothing looks all that appealing. And a lot would make my stomach churn.
And if I ever feel the urge to go on the greatest dark ride ever created, I can go to Islands of Adventure (and try not to think about what an incredible bummer it is that Disney isn't making this kind of thing any more).
I've been going to WDW since the '70s, so I got to watch the rise and fall of the parks. I think if I'd seen WDW for the first time as it stands today, I'd think it was pretty good, but I wouldn't make it an annual destination...and I certainly wouldn't spend any free time talking about it on the intarweb.

In truth, unless we were to be handed a load of cash and a way to take our dog there without having to kennel him, nancynohorse and I have no real desire to return to the parks.
Whyever not?
Well... call us backward and all, but we really liked the OLD Epcot. We really liked a lot of older things that have fallen by the wayside at Disney. Dreamfinder & Figment, not having to wait for an hour or more to catch a Disney transportation bus to get to the park :p... lots of different things. While I'm able to ride the "rougher" rides, Mum not longer can for various health reasons. So that limits what she can do there. And with the cost to go... well, it adds up to where we'd have no future plans to go at all.

Yes, same here. Not every ride/show will last forever. Someday pirates will go to. Scary thought but its true. May be 30 years from now.Cazza and Livvie's Mum wrote:The only things that would stop me going to WDW are:

Things in Disney will change and we will all moan, but the new bits will grow on us or if they don't it'll give us something to talk about in here.
Sorry Disney is my happy place and some things have changed that I miss but survive without.
WDW never ever again... I don't think so!

Only thing that would stop me from going to the parks would be if Disney was bought out by another company.

And when we find someone whose
Weirdness is compatible with ours,
We join up with them and fall in
Mutual weirdness and call it Love.”

Ditto! Those are the only two reasons that could hinder me from going back!Soarin08 wrote:I think the parks would have to close for me to stop going. Seriously.
And I agree.... I'll stop going when I'm six feet under.
